I know im always askin questions, but i have no clue whats going on. I read a topic below about knockin in the suspension. For some reason my dad thinks its this: the top plate coming off of the spring and hitting back down. I highly doubt that @!#$. But heres an illistration of what hes talkin about:
What IS IT!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Will you just get the Tein SS's already?!?!
With EDFC?!?!
You'd have to go over a heck of a bump to make that happen... but with most lowering springs it is technically possible.
It wouldn't happen on any sort of regular basis though so it's an ongoing issue, then this isn't it.
DZ = Problems. Believe us now?
haha, from what i hear its happening to alot of cav's on this site. I know there has gotta be a solution for it. I know ppl arent riding around bangin like this
Ok... after CTS's comment I looked at your registry.
You've got ghetto coilovers and no struts. Yes, this could definitely be what's going on and could be happening all the time.
Yes, there's certainly a solution. You could get some proper springs and struts. Take the garbage off and throw it out. That's your solution.
What more do you want? Do you think there's some sort of magic out there that's going to make your ghetto setup work? This is why we tell everyone not to put them on their cars.
ive went through too much making custom set ups with this suspension to just throw it out. I spent a week making custom strut bearing plates out of a chrysler 300m hub. I want to figure out what the problem is, other than "your set up is @!#$, get a new one"
The problem is that the struts can't control the springs.
You need struts that can absorb the energy from a higher spring rate than yours were ever designed for. Yours are probably not just inadequate, but likely completely shot now.
i dont believe their shot, is there an accurate way i can tell? So if they cannot control the spring rate, whats the knocking i hear?
The knocking could well be exactly what you're describing at the top of this post. The spring rate could be high enough that on rebound, it's actually popping up enough to lose contact with the seat or the mount or both.
Whether they're shot or not, they can't control those springs so there's no value in trying to find out if they are or not. They could be brand new and they'll still be part of your problem.
And even Konis aren't going to give you a smooth ride. They'll just take away most of the danger. The spring rates are too high for a smooth ride no matter what struts you use. Proper struts will just keep them from rebounding with so much force.
well.....I actually have this problem also....and I have a good quality setup: Prokit + AGX KYB.....the problem only comes from the front pass side.... everytime I go though a bump or rough pavement I hear this knock knock sound, like if something is wiggling...spring hitting something ...I dunno....we checked the strut mount and its fine...I really have no idea what could it be

this may be stupid, but if i ziptied the spring to the top plate, would that stop the clanking. What is a setup that will ride like stock when lowered
Probably KYB AGX struts and Tein H-tech springs will ride pretty close to stock.

I would look for another thread or start your own to discuss this. Your setup is 100% different from his. The Prokit springs are compressed even when the strut is fully extended so they cannot lose contact with the seat or mount. This is not your problem. Check to ensure everything is bolted down properly. Usually clunking sounds have to do with something not being tight and moving where it shouldn't.

Then it would just come up off the perch. If the spring doesn't reach from the perch to the mount, trying to zip tie it isn't going to help you.
Now ask yourself... how safe do you figure your ride is, now that you're trying to build up your suspension using zip ties?
Could try putting a bunch of washers on top of the top hat, below the mount.

im not sure i know what u mean
i surely wouldnt drive around like that with zip ties!!!
I just wanna see if that is the problem. Another thing. I did put a bump stop back in the strut. Could the bump stop be to big?
The bump stop doesn't make a knocking sound when you hit it, its more of a thud.
Sorry, meant between the spring seat and the mount, not the tophat.
right, but do you think that the bump stop is holding the springs up, Im almost positive the suspension is resting on the bump stop. should i try to shorten the stop and see if that makes a difference
Sure. If the springs rebound and jump off the perches, they could easily shift sideways and come down on the bump stop.
Shortening the bump stops would not be the solution to this problem.
so if i were to ditch totally the coilover system...What springs would you recomend?
my opinion Eibach Prokit ( they ride almost the same as stock and removes that ugly gap between the fender and wheels )

do you have a pic? I want my car as low as it sits now, preferably lower in the front
well if you have coilovers....I doubt the Prokit will lower the car as you have it now

hmm, what about sprint springs? are they any good?
