brake fade

so today i replced my brake pads along with drilled/slotted rotors and took a little stop&go test. after about 5 minutes of this activity , my brakes were completely faded out!!! seems like those drilled rotors didn't help a tiny bit for cooling, then what the hell will help reduce the fade???

i take it you did this before you bedded in the pads? That's what happens when the pads are fresh and that is why you have to bed them in. Probably smelled really bad too didn't it? What pads and rotors did you use? Also, I hope you didn't come to a complete stop during any of this.

My thoughts exactly.

With stock sized rotors, drilling holes doesn't really do anything to cool them. It just removes material so they heat up even more.

If you want better cooling, you need something with more advanced internal cooling vanes. I believe Baer makes some.

Without getting a big brake kit, the pads you choose will make the biggest difference. If you can't get the brakes cooler... get pads that can handle more heat.

A. did you clean the rotors before you installed them? B did you clean and re-lube the caliper slides and contact points? C. what kind of pads are they? and bed your pads in.

see ya!

Did you bleed your brakes? What color is your brake fluid? You should probably flush your brake fluid to eliminate that cause of brake fade.
