Ground Control Feedback
Friday, September 29, 2006 1:33 PM
I was looking into getting some GroundControl coilovers and some Koni Yellows from carcustoms.com, and they seem to be cheaper than any of the other coilover setups...so could all you GroundControl guys tell me what you think about them. How well did they fit and install? Pictures would also be greatly apreciated.

Thanks,
BMG

ground control is one of the best coilovers you can buy

I have Koni yellows/ground controls on my silver cav and koni yellows / sportlines on my tan cav (sportlines and Ground contorls are both made by Eibach) and I love them both

ive been on GC/yellows for the past 2 summers, love them. install isnt just bolt on when it comes to the struts. but well worth it when done correctly.

do it.

Thanks a ton guys, what's the trouble with the Koni installation? What all do I have to do to get them to fit?

You need to drill out the rear strut mounts, as the koni yellows are thicker than the stock struts where they go through the strut mounts. You'll need a drill press, and the properly sized drill bit, usually a good idea to replace rear strut mounts anyways as they wear out.

not to mention the front strut installation....

fronts are inserts, meaning ur gonna have to hack up a stock strut and use its housing to hold the front konis.

its not too bad once u know what ur doing. and i didnt need to use a drill press to drill out my rears.

also its good to go with 95-99 front strut mounts. much better design when modded correctly with ground controls.

link below provides a nice how to on the ground controls.

Ground Control install.

didnt search hard enough to find a koni install page. but theres one out there.

hope this helps.

Dang, that sounds like a lot of confusing crap, lol, maybe it's not as bad as it seems. How long did it take you guys to install the Koni Yellows?

yeah it can seam ovewhelming at first. not really to hard. once u figure it out and play with the parts its easy.

first time doing the total install. i estimate 3 hours.

yea its really easy. what you do is drill the bottom of the front struts to release the pressure in the struts. then you cut the strut right above the knuckle and empty out the inside. then just slide the insert in. its not as hard as it seems. yea your best off getting the 95-99 strut mounts, they are the better ones

if you dont wanna go through all that work tokico dspecs are full replacements and will bolt right in and are pretty much the same warrenty as koni yellows do

Thanks

they only go down about 2.5 inches, if you want lower go with gravana coilovers or tein ss (both full replacement) or just get GC's but then you have the issue with koni yellows so then just get tokico d-specs!

I think the gravanas would be pretty nice...anyone have any pics of how their car sits with the gravanas or the tein SS?? It would be greatly appreciated guys. And I'm correct in assuming that those are both FULL replacements?? No fabrication like with the Konis and stuff?

Thanks,

i dont have any pics just go into the advanced search where it says members on the left and put tein ss or gravana for modifications and someone should have pics. Gravana and tein both are both full replacements so if you go that route you'll save the hassle of konis, tho i hear it's not a big deal up to you tho

ied go with the GC/yellow combo like u planned. more adjustability than those others.

Tein SS would be the @!#$, but that price.. Shazam!

Ok guys, I've narrowed my choices down to the gravana or the tein SS setup...can someone PLEASE hook me up with some pics. On gravanatuning.com the tein SS setup is cheaper (or basically the same price) than the gravana one...I thought the teins were better cause of the adjustability??? The tein basics don't really go low enough for what im lookin for, but I think the gravana or tein SS's would be a lot better. Ground Controls would be great but i seriously don't have the time to deal with that install right now, and I would be more than happy with either gravana or tein SS's. Please guys, pics and input...they are getting ordered in the next couple of days hopefully so I would really like some pics of either setup.

Thanks,
BMG

ive heard gravanas are an even BIGGER headache than ground controls/konis.... and gravanas are supposed to be bolt on...

Tein all the way.

do it and never look back!

Why would gravanas be a headache?? Like you say, that are listed as direct bolt on, I mean I hear you have to switch the strut mounts but that's all. Anyone know why the gravanas would be a headache?? Right now the Gravans are like $300 cheaper than the Tein SS's. I'm not looking for hardcore performance, that's why I'm thinking the Teins have a bunch of stuff I don't need.

Thanks,
BMG

P.S. How low can you go with gravanas/tein SS's...

well i dont really see since your profile isn't filled out so dunno what year your car is, but if you have a 95-99 it will be easier. The headache with the gravana's are the front strut mounts. On the 00+ mounts some come together and some the mounts are like separated. Also, the other headache i've heard is that some people can't get the ride to be comfortable with the settings. Too harsh and bumpy, and some say they dont have the time to adjust to their liking so they get rid of em. How low you can go i'd say prolly close to 4 inches
