Ok so my girl friend wants to do some stuff to her car so i told her that we could lower it and put a kit on it ......so heres the problem her dad is flipping out that if i put coilovers on it something else in the suspension will mess up.....So basically im looking for some to tell me if i need anything else or if coilovers alone will be fine................
Coil overs should be fine, I think he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Girlfriends' dads are a pain.... just dont get el-cheapo coilovers
Coilovers with quality aftermarket struts would be fine... ok ride quality and no "bounce of death" like you get with using stock struts.
It ain't gonna be cheap tho!
just as long as you invest in a good product, with quality matching accessories (like Koni Yellows, or Tokico D-specs) you'll be fine. Scratch that, better than stock.
Not only will it give the car a better look, but it will improve the handling, and steering response. You could probably argue that if a wreck was to happen on the high way, and you or her were next in line to get into that wreck, that the car would be more capable of getting out of the way better, and under more control.
...
Yeah... he might actually be right, depending on what you're planning on putting on.
Post up exactly what you intend to install, and we'll be able to give you a better opinion. Most noobs who just say "coilovers" are talking about the crap stuff they find for $50 or less. Those talking about quality stuff usually specify the brand and what not.

I'm going to disagree with some of the above postings. If your g/f just wants to simply lower the look of the car, a quality spring/strut combination would more than suffice. I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that she would almost NEVER adjust the coilovers once they're on. Since that's the main advantage of coilovers, why go to the extra expense of getting a quality set (Ground Control, etc).
If you go with a decent spring/strut combination (always been a fan of Eibach/Koni), the variability in the suspension geometry that her dad is worried about will be gone, ride quality will be affected minimaly (considering these are third gen J struts, they're probably blown anyway) and you'll still achieve the lowered stance you're shooting for.
