wtf????? koni yellow install isnt working....
Saturday, April 21, 2007 8:01 PM
ok, so i decided to do my rears first as cinpro and wild weasel's write up says...

i get my rear struts out (had skunk2 coilovers installed)-they are stock replacement monroe's. not a problem, i get the coilovers off and all that ish taken apart etc, get the spring perches tapped off as well and have them in hand.

i then went over to my yellows and put the stainless ring on as instructed.. no problems. i go to put the perches on and they are so freaking loose on the yellow im thinking theres no way in hell this is safe... so i measure, and the monroe's were actually larger in diameter then the yellows, which explains why the perches are too big, but then i went and measured a set of stock struts on a parts car i have sitting around and even THEY are bigger around than the yellows.

am i doing something wrong here? could i may have gotten the wrong ones? i believe the numbers for the rears are 1309 i THINK.

any imput would be appreciated thanks!

try it anyway, IF you've got the right part number.

I suspect that what you have are not OEM shocks. The proper perches, tapped off the OEM shocks, fit the Konis like a glove.

Do you have a GM dealer nearby with someone in service that you have a decent relationship with? Should be easy enough to get some free donors off a car that's had the shocks replaced.

yeah, the shocks i got the perches off were Monroe's.

now... when you put the RIGHT perches on the koni's... is it so tight of a fit that you have to tap them on slightly with a hammer similar to the way you get them off the stockers?

i noticed on your's and cinpro's write up that the paint had been all scrapped up above where the ring goes on the koni... my rings went on nice n snug, but not so tight that it did that to the paint...could this be the problem maybe? or did you guys take the pictures after you pulled the perches back off for some reason...?

as for a GM service guy... no, but i am in good with the guys in the parts dept... i'll see what they say.

when i put the ring on my reds, the ring was very snug and perfect, but it was not enough where it was way too tight of a fit and it needed to be hammered. pushed yes, hammered no.

Those are my pictures, I had a ring that was a bit tight, Koni sent me a replacement and it was fine. it was just enough to scuff the paint.

only thing i could recommend at this point to to go to the bone yard and get a couple that look like the stockers, all black and no name plastered on it the only thing you really need to worry about is that it makes good contact with the stop thats on the Koni body.
