Hey guys,
I had a fellow member of the org. install the Tein Basic Coilover Kit for me last wknd.
All went great with the install, except for a faily loud, constant, squeaking noise, which was diagnosed as the front right strut mount.
When pushing on the right fender, you could see the top of the strut had movement, and the noise was defiently coming from there.
So easy fix right, take it to a shop.
So i went to this supposed j-body specialist, who claims "its not the strut mount, all coilovers sound like that",
He wants to put the original suspension back on.
So i know hes an idiot.
My dads regular shop wants $175 for labour plus parts. (for both sides)
Just want some input with pricing i guess, or if this guy could be right and im an idiot
Thanx, Jay
did you install new mounts? if not than the mount is jsut blown, replace it. what year mounts are they?
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
For some background... I did the installation. Only the right front mount seems to have a little play in it, and I ensured everything was tightened down properly.
Jay, if you pick up a new mount, bring it by and I'll put it on for free.
Did you happen to ask him why the left side isn't doing it if "all coilovers sound like that"?
I don't recall any squeaking though... I'd describe it as a slight clunking sound over just about any bump in the road.
The install was great and i have no complaints about that Kev, i didnt mention your name cause i thought it came across that way, but i am very pleased with everything, and full understand that is not your fault, rather a pre existing problem.
Squeaking, clunking, dunking, annoying, call it what you will, but it needs to be gone.
I would very much appreciate you helping me put those in.
I guess its just a matter of getting it from GM,
anyone know what a set should cost?
You should just get the one, as the other side was fine unless something has changed.
I just chimed in so people would know they're installed correctly.
Was your "j-body specialist" someone from here as well?
the "specialist" is a guy my body shop refered me to who solely works on J's. But after i heard that comment, i wont be seeing him again.
Kevin, i ordered the parts, will have em tomorrow morning (got both, figure just do it all at once rather then having to do the other later)
would you be interested in tackling this on a week nite, or weekend?
If i dont hear from you in a few hours i will call you
i may only be getting the one now
heh. They're not cheap eh?
No problem doing it on a weeknight. Let me know when you get it/them and we'll pick a day. I'm booked on Friday, but other than that I'm reasonably free.
well i am getting the car back from getting painted tomorrow, and should have the mounts then aswell (yes i bit the bullet and got both). Maybe tomorrow nite if whether permitts, or maybe on sunday again. tell me what you think,
Jay
Sounds like you've got a lot going on tomorrow, so I'd rather not make plans and then have you rushing the painters or something to get done to make it over. Let's shoot for Sunday afternoon. It won't take long. How's 3:00?
Update on this...
Unless JaYo chimes in otherwise, we replaced the strut mounts yesterday and this is resolved.
new mounts in thanx to kevin, and all is great,
no noises what-so-ever
cheers, Jay
