I have dropzone lowering springs and i was wondering what shocks i should get next. The rears are shot and i just need to get them replaced but dont want to buy them again because i didnt even have them for 2years and there totally blown out.I was thinking about kyb agx????Well of course besides dspec or koni yellow.Anyone have ST shocks???Please let me know.I dont do any racing i just dont want it to bounce all over the place any more.its scary.
Correct me if i am wrong but drop zone are Ebay springs?
Kyb Agx would not be a good strut to use with those springs as they are only warrantied for a 1.5inch drop and Ebay says drop zone are 1.8 front and 2.3 rear so the Agx's could NOT handle that sort of drop.
Your best bet would be Koni Yellows i would assume, but honestly if i was you i would look at investing in some new lowering springs too as Ebay specials are not the best of buys.

Oh and the reason you blew out your shocks is because GR2's are OEM replacement and are not meant for use with ANY lowering springs

no dropzone is not ebay springs. ebay do not make parts. dropzone however is a terrible spring/strut to put on our cars. the best bet would of been to toss those springs in the trash and put a stock spring on the gr2. like mentioned though the gr2 is a stock replacement which means its not ideal for lowering cars. what do i know though, apparently if you never used the parts, your opinion doesnt matter.
d-specs are the only things that will handle that drop....maybe yellows. but as stated, not very good springs. thier spring rate is to high.

Ah my bad, i wasn't sure if they were actually ebay or if ebay just sold them but i was pretty sure they wern't a good quality spring.

Oh haha i just re-read your post, what i meant to say was i know ebay don't actually make parts, i meant are they "ebay specials" as they would be called by others lol.
Dammit not having an edit button lol.

well dropzone isnt a no name brand company. im sure they work great with other cars, however the parts they put out for cavaliers and sunfires are horrible.
Ah ok i see what you mean.

You don't have to buy them again. They have a lifetime warranty.
well the reason they blow out was because i was hauling aroung 600lb extra pounds in my back seat. The fronts are fine and my dad has had eibach springs on gr2 for over 4 years and there hasnt been any problems with them yet. There a progressive rate spring so there not really not bad.Linears would be a nightmare on gr2's for sure. But ill have to look into dspecs and see how much they cost.I think there around 600.If i was going to do that i may as well just buy tein basic coilovers you know?Yes i did buy them off of ebay.
Thanks for the info>

it doesnt matter they are too high of a spring rate for our cars. not to mentioned you voided the warranty by lowering on those struts. kyb will not replace them.

How would they know?
"Hello, KYB? I blew out a set of your struts because I used them with lowering springs, even though they're not supposed to be used with them. I would like them warrantied." CLICK "Hello? Hello?"
They would never know what springs you used them with unless you told them, which would be FTL on your part.
I've gone through several sets of KYBs and all of them have been replaced under warranty with no problems and no questions from them. I even bent a shock shaft one time while loading a car on a trailer and they replaced it.
And what are the Dropzone rates anyways? Unless they're like 700-800 lbs, they're not too high. They may be too low, but I doubt it.
^^^ If they were smart they would look at the wear pattern on the strut shaft, but I guess they aren't...

KYB has changed their warranty language but this is what it used to say (up till the beginning of 2008):
Quote:
KYB America LLC warrants the listed quality-built products for the listed time period and/or mileage to the original retail purchaser against defect and wear-out when used on private passenger cars and light trucks under normal operating conditions. The warranty does not apply to shock absorbers which have been modified, improperly applied or installed, or installed on vehicles used in racing or for commercial applications. The warranty is void if the product is used on excessively lowered (over 1.5") vehicles or in an aftermarket coilover suspension system.
KYB's obligation under this warranty is limited to replacement of the defective shock absorber in accordance with this warranty. Cost of removal and installation are not included.
The quality-built products, time periods and/or mileage covered under this warranty are as follows:
* For as long as the original retail purchaser owns the vehicle on which the units were originally installed
* All KYB Gas-a-Just® and MonoMax® Performance Shock Absorbers
(including motorhome applications) – Lifetime
* All KYB GR-2® Gas Struts, Cartridges and Shocks – Lifetime
* AGX® Adjustable Gas Shocks and Struts and MonoMax Performance Shocks – Lifetime
Whether they know or they don't, the fact is that trying to get them replaced under warranty is pretty much knowingly trying to rip off KYB. They were abused, they blew (as expected) and he should suck it up and buy new struts.
Yup
They didn't blow cause of the extra weight
They blew cause they aren't meant to be lowered on
KONI. Trust me, I had the same problem with my gr2's. R more than a half inch dropan them with intrax drop spring. they will blow with any more than a half inch drop since they r only stock replacements. You want to go with KONI yellows or tokico spec d's. Speaking from exp. the yellows are a great ride with adjustability. Don't personnaly know about the spec's but have heard good thins bout them. Good luck
