KYB AGX work for mild drop (1.5" or so)
Koni works for however low you want to go so long as you aren't bottoming out.
Some have said that Tokico D-Spec works for mild drops as well. KYB GR2 are NOT drop compatible. GR2's are OEM spec replacements.
Personally I would save a little more ($800 mark) so you can go with konis and springs (either go for the Koni kit, or get Eibachs). If you want full coilovers you're going to need at least twice what you've currently got budgeted, but if you read much on here, people really like coilover setups.
Examples of good coilover setups (as determined from here, I only ever had the Koni Sport kit springs/struts)
Koni struts with Ground Control
Gravana Tuning's coilovers
Tein SS
A new player on the block is STD, which has me quite interested, but coils seem to START at $1200 (but they are height adjustable, as well as damping adjustable on most, which is cool).

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
dspecs are just as good as konis and maybe better for more inexperienced people since they are direct replacements and konis are not.
for a little over your budget I say go with tein basics excellent set of coilovers for a very good price. If your car is just a dd with the weekend track days they would work for you perfectly.

the fronts are only insert which means you have to cut your stock strut above the knuckle so you can use the knuckle part on the koni
What about strut mounts? Can I use OEM?

What about the tokico hp blue's?Are they gonna hold up with a lowering spring?

tokiko hp's are also a stock replacement. some people say they can handle a small drop, but i would stick with d-specs.

theres an faq at the top of this forum. there is a list of all struts for our cars and what they can handle, plus there is a list of all lowering springs (with their drop size) and coilovers.
Oh did not not know that. Will go check it out.Why I was asking is because there is a combo on ebay with tokico blues and tokico lowering springs(1.4inch drop). And for around my budget.$485.

if you search this forum, you'll see some threads about that exact combo. like john said people say that it works and that tokico even warranties it. i cant really argue with them since i havent heard anything from tokico myself. last i heard about those struts though, they were just oem replacements
hmmm according to tokico they are performance struts... and they will warrenty up to a 2 inch drop if you cut the bump stop to their specification
the 1.4 in springs they have are made by canuck motor sports, they are manufactured right here in Surrey, BC (canada).
I bought the Tokico HP strut and spring kit (HPK-291) a month ago and I'm satisfied. It appeared to be well made, installed easily, and Tokico warranties it with the drop they specified. For overall value, I recommend it. That being said, there are lots of more performance oriented people here with other recommendations that bear looking at if they're closer to your goal. - Mark

thats the best thing about it. i always thought they were oem replacemens but if tokico is willing to warranty it then go for it. the sell it with their springs.

In the instructions with the pro kit, it should tell you what you have to do to install the springs, Like if you have to trim the bump stop or anything like that.
