Are the oem front sway bars solid steel or are they tubular steel made
hope someone can help
solid steel.
how can you have a tubular sway bar?
Are you scared of the changes coming? The answer is on the inside.
Well, you could....... For about 10 seconds.
Comparing bars of the same effective length and neglecting the bending of the arms-
The sway bar torsional rate is based on the fourth power of its diameter if its solid, OD^4...
or for a hollow bar...
the rate is based on the difference of the OD^4 - ID^4
The mass is based on the (OD/2)^2 for the solid bar ...
or for a hollow bar...
the mass is based on (OD/2)^2 - (ID/2)^2
In rough #s a 1.5" dia (0.125" wall) tubular sway bar is 6% stiffer than a 1.25" solid sway bar, but is 56% lighter. Very effective way to save weight, but you need to consider that the stresses are higher.

Sure you can. See Mike's post. The closer to the center of the bar you get, the less effect that mass has, so eliminating it entirely is a perfectly reasonable way to make a lighter, better bar.
A lot of OEM bars are tubular. I havent seen a cavy one cracked at the end, where they pinch togther the tube for the end link, and never thought to cut one open or even wrap on it to see if it sounded hollow, but it very well could be.
a lot of dedicated race car bars are tubular as well

I think we got a little off subject...
All the OEM J's had solid bars.

does a sunfire has a sway bar too?? if not is it possible to install a cavy OEM sway bar on a sunfire? dumb question I know sorry. what years and models cavys got a stock sway bar?
My brother just bought sway bars from Hotchkis that are hollow for his srt-4.
All 1995-2005 Jbody sway bars (and entire suspensions for that matter) are interchangable. FAQ is our friend
interesting, now the only thing remaining is to know which J-bodys comes with an OEM sway bar so I can try to swap it on my fire ,low on money for now ..Hoping it could do the job. I'm tired to be pulled in the doors in hard cornerings...
