Pro-Kit or Sportline?
Sunday, March 27, 2005 8:13 PM
Hey I'm looking at getting a set of lowering springs. I have decided that I want to get Eibachs but I'm not sure whether I should get the Pro-kit or the Sportlines. I've seen lots of pics of cars with sportlines but not any of cars with pro-kits. If someone could post pics of a Cavalier with a pro-kit or just give some advice that would be great.

well, sportlines are 1.7 drop in front 2.3 in rear. prokit is 1.4 all around.
sportlines are not well suited for body kits and lots of potholes around.
and make sure you get some aftermarket shock to go with it

for show, the sportlines are great and for a nice road system they are great. In colorado or nay other bad road state, use the pro-kits and tokico blues. That would be a nice combo for a mild suspension upgrade.

my buddy just put sportlines on his Z, and i think its the sickest drop around. the rear is just about 1/8"-1/4" higher than the front, but it itsnt noticable. and in the front there is about a 2 finger gap between the top of the tire and the fender. it looks awesome

Also, for the Sportlines you're going to need some Konis while you can go with KYB AGX dampers for the Prokits, which are a bit cheaper.

I'd go with Konis either way though. They'll be the last dampers you ever buy.

As mentioned, the Sportlines are great if you've got decent roads around you and don't have a low bodykit. I ran them for a year or so and loved them.

If you're anticipating ground clearance issues though, then go with the Prokits.

From what I've heard, the Pro-Kit is the best performance wise because it drops the car so the front CV joints are level with the ground. The Sportlines will angle the joints up to the wheels and they will wear faster because they must stretch out. I have the Pro-Kit and I wouldn't suggest going any lower if it is your daily driver.

the pro kit with koni reds fells like stock, and I always say "it makes it look like it should've look from the factory. " if you keep stock wheels no one will ever notice that it's lowered, they'll just think it's factory sport suspension.

I do not plan on getting a body kit, but I live in Michigan where not all the roads are real great. I am willing to sacrafice a little ride quality but not a whole lot. I'll pry go with the Pro-Kit.

i wanted sportlines, but for 2 reasons i changed my mind. one was that the while the highways are ok here the city streets are old and constantly being torn up. the second reason was that we have a rainy season,(folks up north call it summer hehehe) anyway the roads flood frequently. not to mention there are some vicious speed bumps down here so i guess that makes three.

the ball joint problem has been addressed in the past, from what i remember the extra lowering from the sportlines will accelerate the wear an tear on the lower suspension parts, however this is not something that will happen overnight and greatly depends on the condition of the components to start with.

Oh how I wish that were 100% true.
Then again, maybe I just need to pull my Koni's back off and adjust them some more. Overall, it is a pretty good ride compared to Pro-Kit with factory struts....that was just painful and definitely would make you sick on bumpy roads.

The pro-kits are a great choice for your roads. It sounds like the roads in MI are like the roads you would see in CO, and the ground controls remind me of the rough roads everyday. But pro-kits are great and they don't wear and tear too much. For them, you do not NEED expensive struts and shocks. Tokico Blues or KYB GR2's should do fine. Even stock struts and shocks would work for the time being. Check tire rack for good prices on everything that you are looking at.

I'll have a sig someday....................
