Hey guys
I have ground controls on Koni Reds. Been on the car for nearly two years, never had a problem
Today, my upper washer went THROUGH my strut tower while I was backing out of a parking spot. The thing is, when I put the mount together I never separated the Upper and lower washer (you know how they are one piece smushed together) and i put that whole thing ontop of the strut mount which then went on a weird lookin washer which had a normal washer under neath then the bearings under that then the top hat etc....
so I went to autozone, completely dumbfounded and bought a new set of 97 cav strut mounts. Replaced the mount the same way i had it, and bam right through the strut tower it went.
I looked at the PDF and I think I'm missing a washer somewhere...
I really need to get this fixed. I dont think the dealer will even look at it if I brought it to them so thats out of the question. I don't know what to do.

WTF? I can't figure out what you just described.
Can you get some pics?
Did you have 95-99 mounts or the 00-05 mounts before you bought the new ones?
^^^ I'm with WW it went through where?
I dont know if I already said this either, but since I thought the mount went to crap, I went and bought a new one and put it on. I put the new one on, and now it popped out like this in the picture. However, that piece that is sticking out, I can just take that right off. There's no pressure on it. It became separated from the other piece and the other piece that it was pressed on to is holding up the car. It looks like the piece that you're supposed to throw away (according to the pdf) is the correct piece because its working...and the upper part just pushed its way through.

Yes, I have a 2001 Sunfire but I am using the pre-99 mounts. I think I may have rearranged the parts incorrectly, or am missing a part.

check there, i think you might have done the same thing i did....
what happens is, you get the pre-2000 mounts and they don't come with a washer that normally goes on top of the rubber part, before the nut
that's the washer that should be flipped upside down and put on the bottom side of the mount, then those two washers that are pressed together get taken apart and only the one gets put on the topside
like this
http://www.ny-jbodies.org/library/suspension/groundcontrol/groundcontrol.htm
i hope that helps, i put them together without the washer that goes on the bottom of the mount and i scraped the crap out of the underside of the strut tower....
i went to the dealer, as i couldn't find a parts store in the area that provided this washer with their mounts and i ended up buying the washer at 7 dollars a piece
the part number is 22172036
i'll be making a thread in here to let people know about what i did wrong and how i fixed it, considering right now i'm using the 2000+ mounts and they're working out alright, but with the right parts, the pre-2000 mounts will be much better
OK, Ihave the pre 2000 mounts.
Correct me if I am wrong:
1. separate two washers from each other.
2. take the bottom part, flip it upside down so it looks like this
3. That piece ^^ sits on a washer.
4. Next the mount goes on top
5. So what goes ontop of the mount? The other piece? Or are you using two pre 2000 sets of mounts per side?

Sorry man, I haven't a clue how those mounts go together. I've just never dealt with them.
Do you still have your 00-05 mounts kickin' around though? If so, they may end up being the better solution in a month or two. I've got something in the works that may do away with all this rearranging of parts mumbo jumbo.
NO.
1) remove big black piece from bottom of mount (that which usually holds the dust boot). Split it into two pieces. The piece that actually held the dust boot gets thrown away, and the piece that went into the mount is reused on the TOP of the mount. Flip it upside down and it fits into the top of the mount.
2) There was a cup-shaped washer on the top of the mount also...it is usually silver (non-painted). That goes on the strut on top of the brass washer provided with the GC's, cup shape down. The bearing and washer for the GCs will be inside the cup.
3) Put the mount on the upside down cup washer (originally from the top of the mount)
4) Install the black cup-shaped piece (originally from the bottom of the mount) with the cup shape upwards.
5) Install the nut and you are done.

see, that's the thing! if he switched from 00+ to pre-2000 mounts he didn't get that washer! i've checked a couple parts stores and none of the front strut mounts that you can buy come with it!
that's the washer i was reffering to that i had to go to the dealer and get for $7/piece
when i get the washers in, i'll take lots of pics, but that won't be til next week sometime
?
The Monroe strut mates come with it. In fact any mount I got at Advance or AutoZone had them in.
