Hi. I purchased a set of koni reds rear only like 2 years ago and they are still in the box, never installed. I am now ready to drop the car. I ordered the red fronts, but got a reply saying they do not have anymore. I can get the yellows for the front instead. Is this a good idea?

Absolutely. Nothing wrong with that.
And really, if you don't have any shims or anything in the back then you can take the rears off to adjust them and not have to pay for an alignment.
