different struts?
Sunday, April 17, 2005 6:24 PM
I've got the car dropped on GR2's and suspension techniques (1.2") springs and I've decided Im not really happy with it. The front looks alright but the back is still kinda high, almost stock looking. I don't know too much about adjustable struts and was wondering if I could use some of them instead of the GR2's to get it any lower? Or does ride height depend only on the springs and perches? Thanks for the help.

Im pretty sure the springs is what ride height depends on.

By the way, u got any good pics that show the drop? I have been thinking about getting those springs?

thanks

Ride height depends on the springs. The struts are there to keep the car under control.

oh, and i went with this setup because i didnt want to spend a lot of money. if i could go back, i would spend the extra money to get it lower. it just doesnt really have a "lowered" look but maybe thats alright with you.

thanks for the pics man! Are u just not happy with the stance/drop the springs give you or is the ride crappy?

I see what u mean that it doesnt really give the lowered look but it does get rid of the 4x4 look i think anyways.....plus it would make the car handle slightly better because its a little lower.

I drive my car a lot of places year round and i just wanted to get rid the 4x4 look and get a little better handling.

Anybody got any opinions about what im saying? or can help me decide?

thanks ahead of time

the ride is fine, actually i think its better than stock. not too firm but not to bouncey either and it handles pretty good. I just was expecting the car to look lower with this setup, thats all. It is low enough to drag on the ground in some places, so you will have to watch out for that. I'm happy with the front, but the back didn't really come down much. if you just want to get rid of the 4x4 look, i think this setup will be alright.

also, does anyone know if there is a right and wrong way to put the springs in? i was thinking that maybe the back didnt come down near 1.2" because the springs are upside down. can anyone help me with that? if i remeber right, the back came down less than an inch.

they may take some time to "settle". you just put in fresh springs, it might be a month or so before you get the complete drop.

i kinda dig the 4 x 4 look.
becides, with the stock suspension i don't need a jack to change my oil.

CAR GODS MADE THE 1.6 SOHC TO MAKE US 2.2 OHV GUYS FEEL BETTER.

I think it looks good.

I suspect that Koni built the kit for performance rather than to make your car look slammed. It's about the equivilent of the Eibach Prokit springs, right?

Suspension travel is your friend.

i didn't think this was a koni kit, i bought everything separately.
the prokits are supposed to drop 1.4" and these suspension techniques are 1.2"
i just find it strange that i didn't get a 1.2" drop in the back, not even close to it. i thought maybe the springs were installed upside down or something. i've had them in for quite a while and they still haven't "settled"

wild weisel,

i think hes just got the suspension techniques 1.2 in drop springs, not the koni kit.

or did u mean something else?

by the way u think a 1.2 in drop is good drop?

thanks

For some reason I thought I was posting in the thread about the Koni Sport kit.

My bad!

Honestly, I think anywhere from about 1" to 1.7" is great. Within that range, you've still got enough travel for everyday driving and can choose the spring stiffness and damping level to get exactly the ride you want.

so what does everyone think abou the springs being upside down in the back? does it matter which way they go?
