Coilover Question!
Tuesday, April 19, 2005 8:18 AM
Hey Everyone,
I posted on here not too long ago stating that I plan on getting air ride for next year but I need an inexpensive solution for this summer. Some people told me to get some ebay coilovers for the summer. I found a few and I was wondering what you guys thought of these...

Who told you that???

Both of those are garbage and not engineered for our cars, despite what they'd like you to think.

I seem to recall the responses to your post mainly being to just save your money.

junk. dont buy ebay coils. do it right the first time. since you going w/ air ride later down the road, just settle for some springs and struts or you could just wait and save the money and put it towards the air ride

Listen to me... NEVER EVER think again about buying coilovers or any other suspension on Ebay...Im still trying to sell mine after my first ebay rip off in 5yrs+ I got some cheap Honda coilovers instead of Z24's which I ordered, and the seller was a pain in th.....ss. Only buy probably things like intakes, and graphics... just cheap stuff but dont risk it with performance parts.

Just buy some springs for now. Even used Eibach's or something.

buy dropzone springs or arospeed springs. They aren't half bad, under 100 bucks, and something to lower it in the meantime. Don't even waste your money on struts if you plan on geting rid of the springs and such anyways. 100 dollar springs and call it good.

I'll have a sig someday....................

I think not buying any suspension off of ebay is a little harsh.

If the item you are looking at is a good legitimate product, that you can purchase from reputable dealers, but get it at great ebay savings, whats the problem. Just make sure that the seller has good feedback, which I know still is not a guarantee.

I wont recomend ebay coilovers

BUT if you insist

the ones in the top are the ones that you whant to buy (if those are your only choices)
BUT
I dont know if those will drop your car that much on the rear. My friend bought ebay coilovers and they dropped on the front but on the back they didnt...
thats why ground control rear sleeves are very popular...

Here are some ebay coilovers with an imitation of the Ground Control rear sleeve...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7968172727&category=6763

ALSO

Make shure you have the bearings or buy them separately because if you dont, then the coilover tops will destroy your strut mounts...

Make shure the coilover comes with:

O rings, aluminum sleeves and tops, springs (of course), the keys to adjust them, etc

LAST THING

make shure that when you install them, put them at the stock ride heigth, so it wont damage your stock struts....

Good Luck

You are better off getting springs like Teins from ebay, and then selling them later

Even at stock height these things will destroy most struts in no time. It's the spring rate, not the height that will kill them.

I agree with this post. I have springs similar to your first ebay ad. They are ok. If I hadnt gotten them so cheap, I wouldnt have bought them. If you are only putting them on temporarily then I say what the hell. Ive had mine on for a while, dropped quite low, and have had no problems, with the exception of the back ones are squeaky sometimes. Also I have had a bit of trouble with the rubber from the strut mount tops trying to push through, but I dont think that has anything to do with the quality of the springs. My springs will be lucky to be on for the year though, a new spring/strut setup is in the near future

I dont know about the more expensive coilovers, but I keep my cheaper ones maintained. Grease the bearings, keep them clean, and if you have the 00+ strut mounts, every once in a while you may need to jack the car up and push the strut mount rubber up top back into place.

In a perfect world we could all fork over $1000 bucks right away, but sometimes life gets in the way. But if you are like me and cant stand the stock ride height on these cars, then I say go for it. BUT...... dont expect it to last for a long time, because it likely wont

Thanks for the feeback everyone... I think I'll go with some plain lowering springs for this summer. Where can I find the dropzones or arospeed lowering springs that were mentioned above? Thanks again

Also... I just wanted to mention that I have the drift kit and the front is pretty low already and I need to be able to get out of the driveway with these springs. I need something though because the back is so high it looks like a 4x4!

The only way I can get out of my small driveway is to back straight up, and then crank the wheel once the front end gets close. And then it still barely clears the driveway now

All I can say is stay the hell away from them. Either get proper parts, or wait it out.

Okay... well I was at Eibach Springs... the ones that lower the front 1.7" and the rear 2.3". Does this make the car look even... or does it lower the rear too much? Thanks for your help everyone... I'm not very experienced in the lowering dept.

so is coilovers better than drop springs? I have a 2004 cavy that I am in the works of running out of my factory warranty and will be soon wanting to dump to the ground a little.

Thanks for the input.
