60,000KM: Am I due for rear brakes change?
Thursday, April 28, 2005 11:49 AM
I did the fronts back around 35 or 40, changing only the pads, but now it seems that I don't have that much bite in the rear ( no pun intented ), andthat I have to pull the hand brake lever much farther than I used to. I also noticed when putting my rims on that the left drums rubs at one spot when the wheel is turning freely.

The car is a 03 Cavalier by the way. Oh and how much am I looking for the job? Is it quite easy to do myself?? Thanks!

Hmm, maybe very slightly, especially if I don't pull the ebrake handle enough when parking it. How much a job like that costs at a good garage? Is it very hard to do myself??

It's just annoying that when I brake the whole car seems to plunge at the front, and It's a lil scary to brake in the curves ( I know you,re not supposed to, but still, @!#$ happens ), as the car gets debalanced.

Thanks Greenfire!

I highly doubt you need them changed. Just adjusted. Definitely inspect them though!

I hope you are right WW I just called at my garage, and it is 28$CAD to have them adjusted, but roughly 200$ to chagne the pads and springs. He said he doubte also that they needed change, prolly jsut adjustment. As for the rubbing, does this mean the drum is outta whack? Is it correctable or does it need to be changed??

Thanks

i went 65,000 miles before i changed the 1's in my 97

and i could have gone farther , but it was a slow day at work so i went ahead and did them

i usually recomend a clean and adjust every 5-6,000 miles
