i picked up a weapon r strut tower bar from a fellow org member the other day, and today after work i installed it...i was bolting it up to the strut towers and the passenger side bolted down nice and tight, i couldn't tighten it n e more..then on the driver side, the 2 nuts screwed on nice and tight, but the bolt would start to get tight, but then if u turned it, it would like get lose and u could pull it out...but i dont think n e thing is stripped bc the other side didn't do it...and if i take the strut bar off, it feels like the bolt will just bolt in tightly...yet..the bolt should be long enough to be in the strut bar.....so what i did is i have the passenger side bolted down nice and tight..the drive side i have the 2 nuts nice and tight, and i tightened the bolt to where it felt tight and left it ( i know if i turn it half a turn or 1 full turn it will be lose again)
my question is what can i do to bolt it down tighter?
is there something wrong? i mean, did i strip something?
driving w/ that one bolt not super tight gonna be harmful, dangerous? or bad at all?
thanks
You stripped the bolt... you need to go get a new one.
Yep. If they're as tight as you're describing, then they're too tight. Those top nuts and bolts only tighten down to around 18 ft-lbs.
Go out and buy yourself a torque wrench and a haynes manual before doing anything else to your car!
ya maximum 18 ft lbs. No tighter.
the bolts are short at best , so adding a plate that need to use the bolt to hold it down , you run the risk of striping the bolt and the upper strut mount
if the mount is striped , you can use a longer bolt and nut to hold it
