I just wanted to know if i got the koni yellow's and the eibach pro-line spring kit if i needed coil overs, or if coil overs replace springs.. i read the faq and it didn't make sense.. so if i got the struts and springs, would i need coilovers at all? or is that all i need? Thx~
well theres 2 different lowering options. springs which you are getting. they are smaller than stock springs which give you the drop. also there are coilovers which are different from springs. they are springs with a sleeve that you can use to adjust the height of where the springs sit. so to answer your question. no you dont need coils. its a different set up of which you have. you'll be fine w/ the pro-line and konis
yeah, springs and coilovers essentially do the same thing
when you look at your suspension stock, it will look very similar when you replace the struts and springs
if you were to use coilovers, they would replace the springs and they have a sleeve that allows you to adjust how high your car sits
on top of the ability to adjust ride height, coilovers have a MUCH higher spring rate
stock front:
stock rear:
coilover front (borrowed from duskycavy):
coilover rear:
hope that helps ya out
yea look at the first 2 pics. notice the black spring is just on the perch. its not adjustable. now the last 2 pics the red spring is on a sleeve. the gold colored piece is what you spin up or down on the red sleeve to set where you want the spring.

So it would make more sense if i went with coil overs? i wanted something that i could adjust easily i didn' t know if coil overs take forever to adjust
Thanks though all that helps a LOT TY

To adjust your ride height on coilovers, you jack up the car, clean it up with some brake cleaner or something, loosen the adjuster screw with an allen key, and spin them to where you want them. Tighten the screw (not too tight... just enough to stop the perch from turning) and lower the car. It's not hard.
If you want more tuning options, coilovers are the way to go. If you're looking for more ride comfort and don't need to adjust, you should go with a quality set of lowering springs.

The only thing that i really don't like about springs is when i see my buddy go over a hump or something his rear end of the car bounces abnormally. lol, if i went with a nice set of coil overs would they be stiff (what brands are preferred)? and also if i got the koni yellows do the coil overs go over the struts? or what do they do ? lol sorry i have many questions
are coil overs tight? or loose and would springs be tight or loose? i would like to get bags, thats what i'm looking at.. last question, what is the main difference between coilovers and springs besides the fact you can adjust them?
thanks!
ok coilovers are direct replacements of what you saw in the picture....so if you got coils you would still need to get some kind of adjustable struts. or at least aftermarkets struts. as far as stiffness and softness go.....well with coilovers you can adjust that by following wild weasels step by step instructions. your car shouldn't frog(bounce abnormaly) like your friends unless you go real cheap with coilovers. i think that pretty much sums it up.
kid
Is there a specific website where i can get a deal on coil overs and koni yellows? and also would i want koni yellows? reds? or maybe, KYB? i'm not familar with any of this, sorry for being a pain but i'm trying to learn, THX
reds arent made anymore. the yellow is what took its place. the yellows are the best out there. if you get coils, then i suggest yellows. kyb i believe are really only good for lowering springs. if you want you can get teins. it comes w/ everything you need. coils and struts. there probably in the price range your going to spend to get yellows and a good set of coils. if not i know karo sells the yellows and i believe jim from gravana has them also
Is teins a company? or is it just a package?
tein is a company. they make good stuff

Where would i find the "teins" ?
scott....where are you located? If your up in Canada, i know a place that can get a very good deal for the tein basics.
Im about to purchase them myself!
honestly i couldnt tell you. i never bought a set. i would say either from karo or gravana. maybe jason at a+ could get them but im not sure. check w/ karo and gravana first
yea jim sells them
Tein Basic
that price is around what you would spend for gc and koni yellows. if you want check out his suspension section. he offers alot of stuff including his new gravana coils which i heard are great. 32 way adjusting

Is there a package that i could buy? that consisted of koni yellows AND a good set of coilovers? I was lookin at gravana's coil overs that he has and if i got gravana's coilovers then i would also have to get the koni's ? correct?
would 'jim' make a package? or could he do that? sorry i'm so new to the scene
Oh and 'Mike (bagged)' thanks a lot for all the help
I appreciate it
id email him and ask. i know some offer a package but not sure if he does
Would i just be better off to go with bags? or do you think i should just go with nice struts and coils*?
i;d say you need to sit down, and plan out what you wanna do with the car.
most bags arent allowed to run on tracks, coilovers are adjustable, bags adjust instantly.
but really, you need to sit and weigh out your options, including maintainence and more.
also the reason your friend bounces is usually blown struts from damage, or excessive lowering. or he just went with a really craptacular set of ebay coilovers.
if you go w/ bags, a quality set is going to cost you about 1800-2000. if you just want to lower your car and have the ability to adjust the height every once and while, then go w/ coils. i had coils and switched to bags for 2 reasons. 1 the coils werent high enough for my drift kit and 2 im more into show than go so i dont go to the track and race
