I was wondering if there was anywhere that i could find the instructions or a tutorial that showed how to install a set on a 2000 or newer J body..
Pictures are great, i have a heap of parts i dont know what some of them are for
If I'm not mistaken, you need the 95-99 strut mounts for those.
Someone who actually knows what they're talking about will have to clarify that though.
I can give you a walk through as I installed a set myself. WW is correct you need 95-99 strut mounts for the prostreets. They are not included with the purchase so you need to get them either at the gm dealer or any other auto place (auto zone, pep boys etc). Monroe mounts are better than stock so try and get them. Basically the mount fits on top of the strut and keeps the springs under control while fitting the strut to the car. I linked an image from a jbo member's site to help you understand what I'm talking about.
That is a front strut, the rubber piece at the top is a strut mount. This gives you a basic idea of what a strut for our cars looks like.
Give me some time and I'll load some of my pictures that I took when installing the pro streets.
Got one pic of the rear shock semi assembled
This is a prostreet rear shock without the mount on top.
For the rear shocks you can use any 95-05 rear shock mount on top.
I'm still uploading pics so more to come.
the strut mounts came with them..
ok i'll be awaiting those pics,
thanks lightning
Grrrrr, I had a post done then the org logged me out so lost it all.
Okay bad news my pictures are not around any more (long story) but I wil be making new ones as I have to change a mount that has gone bad. To help you understand how things go together read this how to for the Koni yellows by Cinny, parts apply to the assembly of the strut mounts:
cinny's how to
This will give you some info on how to attach the strut mounts to the struts, the picture above that I posted of the rear prostreet shock is exactly how to pre assemble the front struts. All you need to do is:
1. put the strut mounts on/ torque to specs
2. swap out old suspension, the article above shows you how
3. put in assembled prostreets and adjust ride height
If you are not comfortable with working on compressed springs (that could hurt you if not properly taken off) or jacking up your car then by all means have a mechanic perform the install. You seem to be inclined to do it yourself but please familiarize your self with the above article it has great points that apply to our cars.
Again I will make my own little how to specific to prostreets when I take more pics.
Another note the front and rear mounts for the prostreets are NOT to be modified, just install them as they came.
hey silver lightning i just wanted to know your opinion about the rksport prosstreets have them but havent installed yet! wanted to know what you think of them and how low can you go with them 3 or 3 and a half inches?
With any coilover system this holds true: the lower you go the rougher the ride becomes. My opinion is that they are a good system for the money, comfortable yet stiff. As for the drop I have set them to leave two inches of clearance on the front and 2.5 inches on the back. You can go lower (front with less than one inch and rear a little lower), I believe that 3 and a half is the max (no thread left) I would not want to drive with it like that.
They are the easiest system to install (next to tein) and are doing what I paid for.
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions that you have, I am in the process of getting some more pictures of my setup and thinking about doing a how to install (time permitting)
so i could drop like 3 inches all around and have no problems with hurting this system?? cause rk sport told me i could drop them as low as i wanted and they would be fine they said they were made to do it but i dont know
RKsport might change their statement if you requested warranty work if damage was caused from
driving with the prostreets all the way at the bottom. To me the acceptable amount of thread left should be at least 1.25 inches at the bottom on the front and 1.7 inches on the back. The front struts are already .5 inches shorter than stock so you should factor that in when lowering. That's why it's 3.5 inches total lowering.
As for not hurting anything, remember that there are
no guarantees when you lower a vehicle and RKsport would not be in business if they sold something that never wore out.
The same applies to any company that makes aftermarket suspension components, even the almighty KONI
So for you I would suggest to set the prostreets at a reasonable drop because you spent a big chunk of $$$$ to get this system and you want it to last.
thanks for your help that sounds right cause they will wear much quicker if i lower them all the way thanks for yor help i leave an 1.25 of thread in the front and 1.7 in the back

they will wear quicker.
B+G made them to perform, not really for slamming em.
keep in mind they are already shortened struts, so from a performance longevity perspecting they do not need to be lowered much more than they are in stock height... maybe an inch or so on the threads.
