Hey Guys,
Forgive me in advance if this is a stupid question. I recently aquired koni reds and hp coilovers (I know!), anyway I have a 2003 sunfire and it came off a 2000 sunfire. Are the 2000 and 2003 strut mounts the same? I'm wondering if I can use the strut mounts that are currently on my car....or do I have to purchase 95-99 ones...I also read the faq I'm just a little cloudy on the mounts and all.
Thanks
i'm not 100% but about 90%... when i did my suspention a while back... my buddy came over and did his too and his 2003 seemed to ahve all the same stuff including all the strut mounts.. might have had some tiny differences i don't know but.. as far as i can remember it was all the same
Yes, the strut mounts are the same, but this may be completely irrelevant if you don't have proper hardware to attach to them.
If you bought the whole assembly and are wondering if it will bolt right up, then yes, it will. Make sure you use a torque wrench and get the proper specs.
it came as an assembly and I'm guessing he had his stock strut mount on but the bearings need to be replaced. Also where the bearing is suppose to be on the mount it's all groved in and is no longer flat....I'm contemplating changing it with a brand new mount-or is this something that can be resolved by fitting a metal washer betweeen the bearing and mount?. This might sound repetitive but is the bearing on the 2000 the same as the 2003 as well. I just don't wanna to take everything apart only to find it's different. If it's any consellation I got this assembly off Marty aka MrSharkSpoiler....
Thanks guys
Does the bearing even make any sort of contact with the coilovers? Generally, you need a bearing and tophat assembly specifically for the coilovers, which those garbage ones probably didn't come with.
anyone know where I can get the bearing ww is refering to, already have the tophat.....
Can you take some pics of what you have so we can tell you what bearing you need?
I did a search and found more info on the bearings and BIG BIG thanks going out to ww for that. If we all new how to search first our lives would be much easier. Anywayz after obtaining the bearing from Canada Motion I did the install which was for the most part a breeze. The install took me about 3hrs and holy @!#$ what a difference. Koni's with the HPs are amazing. I get a stiff ride that does not bounce at all-very impressive. My drop is 2.5-if I go any lower I risk blowing my struts.....I post some pics soon.
Once again WW thanks for ur help and that forum on bearings.
