I'm writing this to inform anyone who is about to do a coilover or spring installation and is wondering how they might get that darn front strut nut off? Well I was installing my new Tein springs last nigh, no wait, this morning at like 4AM when I got to the front I had no idea on how to get that nut off.
I did read the info on the yellow Koni install, very informative, but I don't have an impact wrench, so that part didn't really help me. So I sat in the garage for 2 hours wondering how I was going to get that nut off.
Ok, so this is how I did it. You need the following tools:
10mm mini socket
mini extension
mini ratchet
13/16" deep well socket
adjustable wrench
That's it, that is all you need.
Now first thing make sure the spring is compressed!!!!!!
Then just follow the picture, and there you have it.
I hope this was informative for people who need it!
The 10mm goes on the nipple part and 13/16" goes on the strut nut and hold the ratchet still while turning the 13/16" socket the opposite way and there you have it!
Thanks, this should come in handy.

Note that this is only relevant if your strut rod has a hex pattern on the top of it and a nut you can fit your spark plug socket over.
With that in mind, I wouldn't use my spark plug sockets for anything but spark plugs. I think you can buy deep sockets with a similar hex pattern on them, but I don't know where. Most don't. When doing my Koni Specials, I've just put vice grips over an impact socket in order to turn it.
If you've got Koni Specials (Reds) then you need an allen key down the middle as they've got an allen socket on the top of them.
If you've got Koni Sports (Yellows) then you're SOL since they've got the adjuster on the top and nothing to grab on.
Nova racer knows wassup!!
I have had an earthquake for a while now.. Done a few clutch jobs since on an 86 rx7 80's toy pick up and 98 taco.
There is no going back.
I used some vice grips. Just grab it directly under the strut mount because it may leave a few scratches, but these are so close to the strut mount, you can not see it no matter how far up you jack the car. If you want to avoid scratches, just put a piece of rubber or some thick piece of cloth or other appropriate material around it first.
