You have to remember we are FWD and that 90% of our braking power is involved in the front wheels. People who put the rear calipers and rotors on usually do it for looks, not extra braking power...if they wanted extra braking power, they would get a Big Brake kit for their front wheels.

You can get a better compound for the rear shoes. I have some ferodo shoes.

Don't confuse dive and braking. The fronts supply approximately 60% of the braking power, the rears still provide the other 40%. A major adjustment on any type of racing car(that makes turns) still use rear brake bias adjusters to adjust how the car sets-up going into a turn irregardless if it's front or rear drive. The factory adjust the F/R brake bias for most all typical driving conditions.

I might have gotten the Percentages confussed but still...the majority of his braking power is going torwards the front wheels.
Still to answer his question, there is nothing (that I've EVER heard of for our cars) to upgrade the drums.

Did I not just say that you can get shoes with a performance compound lining?

HAHA, I'm sorry I totally missed your post. This is the first I'm hearing of this. Where would you purchase such an item?

...id also like to know.. advance auto / pep boys dont carry it, lol.
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
but for real Brembo makes rear drums for J's but I assume expensive stock replacements.
Which wheels are driving the car has very little with how the braking is set up. The fact that our cars are FWD is irrelevant to this conversation.
One would hope that if you're braking... no wheels are applying power.
Evilserpent lists an 03 Cavalier in his profile, so there isn't much... other than aftermarket shoes.
For any of you 95-02 J-car owners... you can upgrade to the 03+ rear drums which are an inch larger... it was apparently an option on the older cars, but I've never seen it actually on a car.

wow: performance drums....what an oxymoron....the compound lining sounds like your best bet
If you email these people:
http://www.carbotecheng.com/main.htm
they can get just about anything you want. Panther+ is a very streetable compound. Be ready to drop some cheese though. I ordered my ferodo shoes from Pat back when he was doing the whole brake business thing so I have no personal experience with carbotech, just word of mouth from SCCA members.
Lenko, I picked up a set of those larger drums but somebody mentioned that they were larger because the mechanism used to push the shoes out wasn't as good as the smaller drums. The drums never made it on my car though, so I can't give any real idea if they make a difference.
Just on a side note, I have SS lines, brembo plain rotors and axxis ultimate pads with the stock drums and el cheapo discount auto shoes and I think the brakes are my car's best asset. I have had several other drivers tell me (when autocrossing my car) that my brakes are excellent.
You can get the brembo rotors and axxis ultimate pads from Nopi.com for like $100 shipped. Spend another $75-100 on stainless steel lines and you can have an excellent brake setup.
03 & up larger drums? width or diameter?
There are also larger wheel cylinders available. There are two sizes- US and export. The export ones are bigger (by about 1/4") and require swapping the backing plate. They both use the same shoes though.
Cross drilled drums! thats great! hey can i get them slotted too?
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
hmm, cross drilled rotors would prolly work, LOL, i dont know if you would need a gas escape on your drums but that might actually work. Someone drill some holes in there drums and let us know. LOL
someday i will have rear disks again ...and actually install them
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
is there any car that we could use the disc brakes off of to put in the rear of the sunfire?
oops i meant cav. lol for some weird reason i was thinkin of sunfires
geez .. think cavalier!!!!!!! my cav will whoop your sunfire lol jk
corvette rotors and calipers but you need that plate made to do the conversion
Theres a post in here somewhere describing how to instal neon rear discs on our cars
just check that out its pure genius.
