theres nothing that needs to be changed about the LS motor, its quiter the perfect motor, there's not one more durable motor then a V8 and the LS motor is on top of the list is not #1, not because I own one, because I owned and know of many other ones and my LS6 is Perfect in my Book and many others! It was just funny how it used the same filter.

not sayin anything about the motor itself, but you figure with such a higher end performance engine a larger filter would be a nice compliment.

hell even on scrufdogs 13 second car, he used a bigger filter than stock....

I do computer work for a project management company. Recently they did a big job for a major filter manufacturer, tranny and oil filters. Filters are designed for the high end applications. Then if they can reuse the same filter on a smaller application, they will.

All the oil filters for the 2.2, 2.2 ECO, and 2.3/2.4 are way oversized for the motor's requirements (more than twice the size/flow rate they need to be). For a while there every car in my family took the same filter; that includes a 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 3.4, 3.8 and 4.3L engines (we love our GM cars, and one truck). Now I've got a 2.4, and it takes a different one than all the rest, it's the LS1/6 oil filter.

You'll find a lot of the same going on with the other major brands. I know Dodge uses the same filter for the neon and the magnum (depending on year and engine).

Alot of the design is not the flow rate, but the back pressure. With 0 back pressure, the pump will spin freely, causing air bubbles, and eventually cavitation problems (cavitate = going round, but not pumping).
