well here's a little story for anyone interested. I was headin home after some bussiness (i-20 going west @ odessa) and I hit a pothole. I don't know if this has happened to any of you, but I sheared 3 lugnut studs and lost the car for a little bit. I was going say 80 and I was sideways for a while. it was a great time. needless to say I needed a change of underwear after this...........has this happened to any of you???
Sounds like loose or damaged lug nuts/studs. Probably lucky you had all five on there, right?
I've never had a pothole damage any part of my car, seen rims go, but not on my cars. I live in Michigan, the pothole capital of the US.
its happend to signal 13... if you have aftermarket wheels and you dont have hubcentric rings for your wheels, VERY easy way to shear lug nuts...
also if those sportlines are on stock struts, that kinda adds to the force absorbed by other suspension parts.
Check into it. I know here in MD. if your car is damaged by the roads the county has to fix it. Of corse most people don't know this so most neverdo anything. Years ago friend of mine with a '72 Mavrick Grabber hit an expansion joint on a bridge on the beltway
it ripped his exhaust right off the car. His 3 month old custom duel Flowmaster exhaust
he contacted the county showed them reciepts for the work and pictures of where it happened and they gave him a check for the damage.
Good luck.

MD wont do that anymore for reg cars, mainly classic cars, especially if the cause was from you not having the right parts on your car.
Yeah, if you've got your wheels held vertically in place by your lug nuts then you've got nobody to blame but yourself when they shear off. That's not what they're there for.
They'll replace stuff on newer cars too event. I've had several customers come in for price quotes on wheels from pot hole damage and most have come back with money
from the county. Not sure for aftermarket wheels so I wont say. But Weasel your right if you don't do things the right way and it comes back to bite you in the ass you have noone to blame but yourself.
But Good Luck man hope the rest of your car didn't get hurt.

anne arrundle didnt replace carlos's two shattered wheels. older car, new wheels. even the police station said aftermarket is to be taken up with insurance. md law. i dunno.
Ah after market you hit the nail on the head. But Balto. co. replaced Marties exhaust for him. Who knows maybe its different from county to county. Or the laws have changed
Marties was about 6 years ago I guess.

yeah this was a year ago...actually a bit less than
I do have hub centric rings and I have yellow. I have no idea wtf. the car kinda jump. i am sure if I didn't have my seat belt on I would need a new roof too. lol jk. it was preety bad my box shifted and everything. music stopped. dropped cars suck. but I love the way they handle and look. so I guess it is my fault. i dropped it. additional stress I guess.
if you have hubcentric rings, the hub should have took the majority of the force...
did you ever drive around without those rings on those lug studs? and what do you torque your lugs to?
Event: sounds like you're suspecting damaged lugs/nuts, or improper installation. That was my first guess too. But the hub should take almost all the force.
You messed something up that those 3 would take more force than the other 2. I'm
guessing severely under-torqued (loose) lugs.
I've seen where loose lugs leads to broken studs.
I hit a curb hard enough once to blow a lower ball joint, but the lugs and studs were all just fine.
just trying to guess what could have caused the prob...
i know overtightening can stress some, but more damage, depending on lug nut material, should go to the wheel.
alot of people though get wheels and then run without hub rings for a certain amount of time...
like myself when i first got my wheels back in 2001.
then alot of people over or undertighten lugs.
but like said, the hub shoulda took the force.... freak things do occur though
