Question for people with Hp racing coils
Thursday, August 11, 2005 11:03 AM
heres my problem, I have HP racing coilovers with KYB GR2 struts. Ive got the coilovers dropped all the way and whenever I hit bumps the threads on the coilovers seem to bottom out and hit the strut mounts. Does this happen to anybody else? Im also looking for some springs if anybody has any for sale. thanks

kybs arent meant to handle anything past a 1.5" drop i believe. even konis arent made to be riden on constantly slammed. its not the coils themselfs (even though they arent that good) its the struts not being able to handle the drop

Even if there was no lowering at all, the KYB's wouldn't be able to handle the higher spring rates on the coilovers.

It's a garbage setup all around. That's your problem.

What's on top of the springs in the front, between them and the mounts? What sort of bearing do you have?

I don't really get what you mean when you say the threads hit the mounts. Are you saying that the sleeve itself makes contact with the strut mounts?? That's all sorts of wrong!!

Just in case this is not a joke....

GR2's are stock equivalent replacements.

Problem 1: Way, way too low. Raise that bish back up to stock height or you'll blow the GR2's real soon.
Problem 2: the HP's have a very high spring rate, GR2's cannot control them. You will have a bouncy ride, and they will wear quicker than normal.
Problem 3: you have HP coilovers. Crap quality, no top bearing in the fronts. These coilovers will blow GR2's with ease. Hell, they'll blow AGX's, and Koni reds or yellows. None of these have enough bound/rebound control for this spring stiffness.
At least you are looking for new springs.

You should learn to think before you act-- meaning you should research suspension before you just blindly put stuff on. Thats about the worst thing you can do to your suspension.

Kurt, I was trying to talk to you about your set up. Those coil over are not the best and the spring rate on the springs are to high. On top of that GR2's are only OEM replacement. I have Koni and Ground Control you can ride in my car to see how that rides if you are interested. I would suggest getting AGX and Eibach Prokit or Tokico and Eibach sportline or H&R or porgress. If you want we can meet up to talk.

agreed on all said....

especially the having em all the way down.... you might as well welded steel rods in place of your struts.

also if you finally take em off check your ball joint, a guy who posted here about a month ago had bent his ball joint so bad it caused drivability issues.
