I was just looking through my Chilton book for my cavy and it stated that "you must use a special socket set to remove the nut from the top hat of the strut"...is this neccessary......

no. I think its a 22mm socket. If you call that a special socket then yes

lol......I think it's a socket that keeps the strut rod from spinning, but I could be wrong.....is the strut rod suppose to spin when I take off the top nut.?..it won't damage the strut if it spins, will it?

Depends on what strut you have. Different ones have different tops so you need different methods to hold them in place.

If you've got an impact wrench, that's the way to go. No fuss.

Yeah the impact wrench is the way to go. Otherwise an open end wrench + a socket will work just fine. Or two open end wrenches will work too.

yeah , I have an impact wrench....I was just concerned because I didn't know if I would damage the strut if the rod spun ..................well, I also figured out that I need spacers....damn Tokico didn't send me any...any suggestions

are you sure you need a spacer, or does it look like it when the strut isnt fully bolted to the mount?

otherwise
basically like everyone has already said. struts are made to where they rotate shaft wise...

yeah, I am pretty sure..there isn't enough thread on the strut rod for the nut provided by Tokico to secure properly....the nut is much smaller than the stock nut.....I wouldn't be able to use my stock nut because the stock and Tokico strut rods are threaded differently...

Hey Bleco, I ran into the same problem with my D-Spec kit. I used a cutoff wheel and cut off the bottom flared part of the stock nut and used that as a spacer.
