hey everyone i have a 1997 2.2l 3 speed auto. i have 127,500 miles on it and was just courious what s the average life span of the motor and tranny??? i have been very abusive to the car BUT i change the oil, spark plugs, coolant etc on time every time. the only thing i NEED to do is change the tranny fluid never been changed. so just let me know whats your mileage... thanks... later...

I have a 1998 2.2L 5 speed I only have like 45,000 miles on it.
2003 2.2L 5speed and i only have about 560 miles....beat that!! <br>

Under Reconstruction
The timing chain went on mine at 115,000. I went ahead and replaced the whole motor with a newer one. So right now the car itself has 120,000. My dad's on the other hand has only had to replace the alternator and water pump. His car is a 96 as well, and its has 150,000 miles. So if the car is well maintained it will last a long time.

FYI.. We are talking about the 2.2 OHV. Not the Eco.
My 99 Cav had 273,000 miles on it. When I traded it in I think they gave my $5 for it.

99 5 speed 67,000 miles no problems so far
bought m 96 3spd auto with 116k have 120k.. no MAJOR problems as of yet... <br>
97 2.2 5spd with 68,313 bought it with 54,xxx and ive put a alternator on it, besides that no problems...
u say you have been very abusive to your car??? u mean you have ran it at the track a few times ect...or are you one of those people who just floor it all the time??? if u just floor it all the time and run the piss out of it, dont exspect more then 140 thousand miles out of it.... if you take it easy most of the time u should get at least 150 thousand out of that engine trans combanation, they are the 2 most reliable (and slowest) put into the 3rd gen j's. <br>
My 97 2.2 has 143,000 right now and I still run in the mid 16's at the track. No major problems as of yet.
96 4 speed, 204,731 miles, orginal tranny, and I beat the hell out of it. The only major thing is the timing chain tensioner a couple times (and again). The motor's coming out permanently soon, but I think it's still in good enough shape to go into my go cart shortly.

i have ran it at the track 4 times, i run it interstate every day at 75+ mph, and sometimes i floor it but thats to piss off my friend who has a crx and thinks his car is "fast" lol.

97cavy22 why must you say also the slowest???? anyways mine has 140,000 on it and i have had to replace the injectors, plugs, wires, radiator, alt, waterpump, wheel bearings, ball joint, roll pin on the 1 2 shift fork, clutch, valve cover gasket, other than that ever;ything has been fine. but also i put 40000 miles on it in less than a year.

My buddy's got a 96 2.2 Sunfire that has 176k on it. Only mods are a pulley set, a muffler on stock piping, and no intake (open TB). He hasnt changed the oil for 7,000 miles I think. It's got the wrong spark plugs in it too. But damnit, it still kicks @!#$ every day. It did blow a head gasket at about 144k but all in all it's a good motor.

I have a 97 5speed with 102159 on it and it runs like a dream not one problem.
62,000 on my 2001 2.2 (4 speed auto) and i only have the wheel bearings on both sides as well as my water pump go. I hate the car too!! <br>
