I know a guy who recently bought a 02 cavalier with a ecotech, I thought the ecotech never came until 03 the car is from the states and never been droven in the rain he bought it from the original owner , it only has 70000 miles on it and has painted door handles miriors and factory chrome rims and power windows, I was just wondering if these were sold in the U.S and not in canada the car looks like it just came from the show room
They were sold in Canada as well. They were badged as Z24s.
2002 was a strange year for the J-body. The Ecotec (no H!) was a mid-2002 model year change. Early 2002 cars were still available with the LD9 and LN2.

From what I have seen in 02 you had LSS-Eco, Z24-LD9, and base models were LN2's. The interesting thing was the LN2's shared the same ECU was a Eco, or same style.
FU Tuning
Mine is z24 body with the eco even had the z24 red seats

Mine has the LN2 in mine a base model and it was one of the last ones built in January of 02 also.
2002 Chevy Cavalier Coupe 2200 SFI 5SPD Manual with 91450 miles.
Oil changed: 89616 miles with Amsoil 5w30 Signature Series and Amsoil oil filter.
If im not mistaken, what happened 1/2 way through 02 the Z24 and GT models dropped the LD9 completely and went to ecotec. I'm not sure if it was also available as an upgrade option on base models.
My guess for the Z24/GTs would be, if you look at your build on the sticker, the 02s probably have a late 01 or early 02 date, where as the ecotecs would have an 02/later 02 build date.
I'm curious to know if they ecotecs were an option on the sedans and base models in 2002. Anyone?

This.
I believe it was Oct/2001 (2002 model year) manufacturer's date were the first Js with the Ecotec and the LS Sport replaced the Z24 along with the Twin Cam. The Sunfire GT was the same ordeal, but no name change in 2002 m/y.

That's because Ecotech isn't the correct way to spell it.

but you're wrong.
GM (the manufacturer) calls it the ECOTEC. there is no h. IDGAF what it stands for, any vehicle that has an engine from this family has ECOtec either on the coil cover or some other plastic bit that covers it. in no way, shape, or form will ecotech EVER be correct.

Actually, it's "
Emissions
Control
Optimisation
TEChnology", not economy technology. And like Rich said, that's how GM terms it. Nowhere on the car does it have an "h" in the spelling.
Otherwise, you guys all drive El Dee Nine's.
right, emissions control optimization.. or "
economy"
lol sure the short form of it is ecotec minus the H but like i said, technically the H is included in the actually terminology. so the politically correct form would be e.c.o. tec
hnology.
but yes i can see why you guys get upset about it being short formed incorrectly, same issue honda guys have with it and VTECH. lol no its not a freaking landline cordless phone company.
