Alignment question...
Sunday, October 02, 2005 9:42 AM
ok guys here's my situation...

about a year ago i blew out a tire and didn't have the money to replace all 4, so i just bought one. the old three tires are about 3/4 worn, while the new tire is only about 1/4 worn. my car needed an alignment BEFORE i blew out the tire, now it really needs an alignment.

my question is, someone told me that doing an alignment on a car with unmatching tires is pointless because the uneven tread wear will pull the car back out of alignment. is that true? should i wait on an alignment until i can get 4 new tires or will it be ok?

i have time to get an alignment done today, so any quick help is appreciated.

thanks
brian

I would wait and get the alignment done with the 4 new tires. Whoever told you
that...to me ..it sounds like BS.

...mmm, i agree, wait to get four new tires. with different size tires, they are gonna wear unevenly. wait til you can get four. damn, everything is so expensive nowadays, I feel your pain, brother.

Its not going to "pull" your alignment back out, but if you have already worn your tires very awkardly you may still have a pull. If you don't plan on buying tires soon, you should go ahead, otherwise I would just wait.

On my non-j-body, the last time I had it aligned was a few years ago. Brand new Kumho ECSTA HP4 716 on the rears, used Yokohama Guardex 600 snow tires on the fronts. No problems with the alignment job.

If the alignment was bad even before the new tire, you should definitely get it done.

It may still pull a little, but at least you won't just chew up the new tire.
