pull the knobs off, heat real quick with a hairdryerm and pull back the rubber. that will give you the clear "cool" knobs. then you can paint them with transparent paint for a color.

What kind of paint would I use for a light red glow at night?

you can't really get a red glow at night with the paint. The best you'll get is like.. pink, which is cool, but not red. I'd recommend taking out your HVAS assembly, pulling off the faceplate with a flathead, and replacing the clear bulbs with red LEDs. But if you like pink like i do, go ahead and paint!!!!! lol my dome lights are pinkish-red

If you do replace lights... use LEDs like Jason says. The colored lights are @!#$, and give you the same faded-look (red looks pink, blue looks teal).

So all I have to do is heat them, and pull off the rubber on the outside? Will it looks decent if I use a blue transparent paint? Do you have any recommendations on what brand?

There are multiple threads about this. Just look around.

I didnt even heat mine up to take the rubber off, just roll it off arond the edges and pull.

Hmmm, I'll have to do this. Looks like a cool idea. I saw these really nice colored ones on EBay. Yet when I tried to bid, the bid was all the way past $35, so I was like HA! I'll just do it myself, lol.

Once the rubber coems off, is there a way to get it back on? Or is it a one-time removal?

99 times out of 100 you can get it back on if you wanna work at it. (I think they can be harder to get back on then they were to get off).

if you happen to be in that 1 out of 100 time... you really shouldnt own a car.

exodus 259,

Mine are painted blue already. If you want to trade yours for mine, send me an email.
That is if you haven't already peeled off the rubber on them.

I recently changed my interior back to stock, so I am looking for rubber ones to put on there. If you wanna see pics, just let me know and I can send you some. Sorry to go off topic, but my dome lens cover is also painted the same blue color as the knobs if interested.

I didn't need a hair dryer. Heck, I didn't even warm them. It just came right off with a little bit of effort. They are still whole too. It looks pretty cool without the rubber, but it does look a little bland. I think I'll need to go for the paint idea. Any recommendations on paint or brand? I'm going for blue if that helps?

I got red by just putting some red mylar in around the stock bulbs. This way they look completely clear during the day but light up red.

I started by putting red mylar circles in behind them but that ended up being slightly visible during the day. So I ended up looping little pieces around the bulbs. Mylar is the stuff used for stage lighting so it won't melt or anything.

Same result as putting in red lights, but much easier to do.
