Paint Rubbing Off??
Saturday, April 02, 2005 7:28 PM
I am planning on painting my entire interior this summer, but I was wondering will it rub off on to clothing?? I am not talking about painting the seats and things like that, but I want to paint the console and doors. I have read a lot on the painting, but noone ever says if it comes off onto clothing. And is it a bad idea to paint the "seat belt guide" (the thing that holds the seta belt into place built onto the 00-02 cavi's? I think it would flake off... ?? Thanks for any advise!

I actually just redid my interior. i must say i'm very dissapointed by the majority of paint products, i lightly scuffed my peices, plastic primered them and the paint is still flaking off, any high traffic heavy friction area will rub off, my vinyle is staying nicely, the plastic takes ALOT of prep work i only spent about a week painting my parts, i'm planning to redo it here pretty quick this summer but as it is right now the paint flakes off the bottom of the door panels and the dash, but its not like touch it and it flakes, it takes somethin heavy, like your foot rubbing against the door panel on the way out of the car or someones nail rubbing or rings other than that its not so bad. just take your time use high quality paints and prepping supplies and it'll come out just fine.

I've had no issues with wear on any of the interior parts I've painted.

Take a look at pics of my interior though. I've been careful about painting only things that shouldn't get worn. If you're smart about it then you'll have no issues.

Painting stuff that's going to get rubbed or scuffed often is just asking for trouble. It's only paint. It's not some magic impenetrable cover.

Exactly. Also take into account that if you don't at least clear the paint, and prepping is not done correctly its almost a gaurantee over time you are gonna get problems of some sort. Prepping is probably the biggest key for things lasting.

Every interior peice I did I pretty much followed the steps as if you were painting the exterior of the car. Also I used an HVLP gun instead of spray paint. I think the biggest thing is if you go the Spray Gun route make sure you clear it more than a couple thin coats to give it some added protection Also adding a flex additive wouldn't hurt either. You also have to learn to watch how you enter and exit your car.
So far my interior is holding up really well but I would be lying if I didn't say I babied it like I do the exterior of my car.
