Hey fellow cavy ppl, i was wondering if there was some other way of getting a short shifter on my 5 speed with out buying a short shifter ie: cutting it. Has anyone done this? is it a good idea/bad idea?

i have the b&m short shifter... i have a feeling that if you just cut it, it would take alot of work to stick it back together to the point that it wouldnt snap off on a hard shift. plus, it would probably take alot of sanding, and maybe some paint to make it look decent. if i were you, i would just buy a short shifter and save myself the trouble unless i were very short on cash.

Fill out your registry so we even know which 5-speed you have.

Cutting the stick down is not the same as installing a short shifter. The short shifter is not only a shorter stick. It's also extended below the pivot to reduce the throw length.

its got a great feel to it... and i might say more accurate shifting. in the winter though, you can literally freeze your hand to the cold aluminium knob. and leaving it out in the sun during the summer... well.... i hope you have one of those oven mits. get a new leather knob... i got a momo tomahawk which is quite nice
