I cracked the @!#$ out of the top part of my dash have any of u ever fixed this by covering the cracks with vinyl or some other matrial... Please help ASAP....
thats a pretty common problem, though ive never had it... check the group purchase forum, winks customs is selling an upper dash crack replacement piece fir this very problem
i believe winks carries a fiberglass cover for that piece
there is a GP going on for it. but as far as I know nothing's happening with it.
Forever a work in Progress

do you realize what all is involved with replacing that???
you have to remove the enitre dash, steering wheel, radio, everything, to get to that, its really not worth the time, either get the winks piece, or cover it with some fiberglass
but if you reallly want to you can replace it, good luck findin a junkyard that will take that part out for u tho, ur prolly gonna have to do it yourself
yeah thats y i was thinking of glueing it and cover it with vinyl...

Are you serious? In my sunfire there's only two screws. You pop out the center vent and unscrew it and then it just pops out.
What was GM thinking when they did it differently in a cavalier?

It really is a big problem, mine is cracked right down the middle; and don't think wink's piece is gonna come out anytime soon. GM should have made the cavaliers like the sunfires so we wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

Yeah, I can so tell it's the heat. Heat expands, cold contracts. Mine has 2 cracks, and when it's really hot inside the car, it fits together perfect, then when it gets cold, the piece that's cracked recesses about 3mm.
cant we just super glue that @!#$

When we were wiring in my LED's in my dash and we had the bezel and dash off, I was looking at that part. Its insane. The airbags, radio, glove box, steering wheel, etc all has to come off. It would make a lot more sense if Chevy made that one long part a seperate piece. But noooooooooo, they have to be difficult.

hes right, mine just cracked, when it gets cold out it contracts and that's when it cracks. but now that it is summer when it is warm i can barely see the crack, it expands and the crack is barely noticable.

winks is going out of buisness so thats not an option , just glass it or glue it to much of a hassle for something so small in my eyes
i've heard loosen it up, it may rattle just a little but it shouldnt crack on you. ( by rattle i dont mean where u can hear it it just shakes)

my dash has 3 cracks in it already, but i was wondering what screw or screws need to be tighten for my top dash(right by instrument panel) Driver Side. It is really loose, i can pick it up and it rattles like hell when going over a bump. Thanks.

He's quite serious. In the Sunfire there's a trim piece that goes along the front of the dash. In the Cavalier, that section is part of the entire plastic dash piece encompassing pretty much everything. Huge PITA.
I'd get some vinyl fabric to match and lay it in over top. Probably the easiest solution.
Otherwise you're in for a whole lot of disassembling...
yea that winks piece was doomed from the beginning. but i heard somewhere another company has a cf cover piece out? i originally had one crack in mine, then everytime i slam second in my car the whole dash moves and i got another crack now, so needless to say i tell people i only go from a second gear roll now.
