Just wondering if the spare tire area in the trunk is worth cutting for weight reduction...also, would it still be structurally safe. There is three frame rails that surround it, two to the side and one in front where the BTM canister sits. I am trying to shave as much weight as possible, the car is on a huge diet right now so if anyone knows other parts that can be hacked out let me know!
Failure is not failure if you learn from it
it doesnt weight alot , i dont remember what karo said it weighs or if he even weighed it
So it is SAFELY removable?

Less weight+turbo=faster car

it is safe as long as you weld the new flat panel in correctly.
it doesnt weight much at all by the way but every ounce counts
you can remove pretty much everything behind the fuel tank and axel

remove the hood, fenders, dash, steering wheel and all seats and the deck lid...just kidding
the only weight reduction i do is my tire and jack, i actually hook up better w/o them in there....strange but i like to see what my everyday daily driver can do at the track with everything in tact.
just get level 3 weight reduction like joey static......

Wasn't there a list from a while back that had all the parts listed that you could safely remove and how much they weigh?
weight reduction waste of time imo....i think its something like every 50 lbs lost 1/2 hp....gl

every 100lbs = .1 sec in the quarter mile or something like that

Spare tire, jack, ect
front seat, rear seat (cusion, both 2/3 back rests, bracket to fold seats.
glove box door and radio plastic bezel= a little less than 100lbs.

Take out all the supports under the hood and the trunk, the hinges and brackets, as well as the trunk springs and use dzus fasteners instead of the hinges and latches. You will have to lift off the hood and trunk and they won't be lockable but you will save a fair amount of weight. Thats pretty much free weight reduction. You could probably even cut out a lot of the inside of your door and put a plastic cover over it so it would still look ok. Pick up some lexan sheets from home depot and replace all your windows(not free but not incredibly expensive)
