Please name the MYSTERY PART!
Thursday, December 08, 2005 10:56 AM
Hi guys,

I have been working on my interior (door panels, glovebox and console) and just found this "mystery part" I have no idea where it goes - anyone who can identify it please let me know so I can put it back where it belongs. Everything works in the car without it (so far!)

It's a little over 2" long

Any help greatly appreciated - this may be the part that holds the whole J-body together!

-Steve

If everything works consider it "weight reduction"

Guess it'll be fine...

As long as nothing starts smoking or rattling really loud id agree
with Sean McCoy and say consider it weight reduction!!

When I swapped out my whole dash I found that same piece, it fell off of it when I removed it, looked on the new one and still couldn't figure out it's purpose....so I tossed it out.....

I took off my dash to paint it, then put it back on...I had 32 screws left over....but everything still works (aside from the HVAC bulbs i broke), so im cool with it

Damn, and I was worried about the ONE gold screw I had left over from when I took my dash PAD off.

Thing is, it's one of the brass ones, so I KNOW it goes in the glovebox area... but it doesn't fit anywhere!

There should be two brass screws up near the windshield securing the airbag assembly. I think they hold the dash down to ensure that the airbag blows the cover up rather than lifting the whole dash.

You probably want to find the place for it and put it back.

When I had my dash back together with the bare minimum of screws for a few weeks because I knew it would be coming back off again soon, I made damned sure those two were in place.

at first look i thought it looks like the window stoppers in the door...i don't recall ever seeing a piece like that all 4 bazillion times i've taken my dash apart...
but who knows, its probably somethin under the dash somewhere

Buzz122 & Joe are right, it goes between the passenger airbag & center vent. When I took my dash apart, that piece fell down through the dash & on to the floor. I never was able to get it back in the way it's supposed to be in there. There's just not enough room for you to work with.....it looks like you really have to take the dash completely apart to get it back in there.

Huh... I've never seen that piece before. Guess mine fell out before I got the car
