Alrighty my 96 cavi just has the gauge cluster with the speedo. Will a cluster from a car with a tach plug and play in my car or do i need to do something else first?

I belive there is some sort of rewire you have to do. I'm not for sure. One of the pre 2k guys will have to help you on that.

you can swap in a z24 cluster with no problems at all. since your car is a 96, i'm assuming you have the analog odometer. just make sure you find one with the analog odometer. swap your odometer into the new one, install it in the car, connect the harness, disable the passlock, enjoy your new fully functional tachometer.

there is no wiring that needs to be done. its just plug and play, provided you get a cluster from a z24 that is close to the same year as yours. you might have to take some time and adjust the needles after you install it, but that takes like 5 minutes.

You'll also have to look into the laws involving noting the mileage change on the odometer. Don't want to get charged later for odometer fraud just because you wanted a tach.

And how is this affected when you go from a non trip odo to a trip odo?

well... thats why the new cluster will have the trip odometer, and also thats what the PINK PIN is for...to pass mileage to the trip odometer.....so don't loose it
