I posted this question in another thread, but I figured it really desrved its own thread cause it really didnt belong in the gauge cluster thread. Why does Black Cat Custom make a gauge cluster that changes the speedometer top speed from 110 mph to 140 mph? Since the Govener kicks in at 107 what is the point of this?

To make the car appear faster than it is.
See my response in other thread..........

It's kinda like putting a turbo or supercharged badge on your car when you don't really have it if you ask me...
and yes, it does seem a waste of 270 dollars that could toward actually making the car faster instead of just "perpetratin"
But don't ask me - my car has a roll call for God's sake - but at least I have the dignity of actually having all the stuff...
it would help though if the HP Tuners software would ever come out, and people used it (correctly of course, meaning their cars were modified to handle it), to raise their speed limiter.

its for looks nothing more...

There are are sooooooooo many cars out there that shows more MPHs in their clusters then what it can really do.
So BCC is not alone on this, the auto industry is in it as well.
There are AMG Benzs that show 220MPH but they are limited to 156mph. So think about it.
It is all about looks. And the fooling the iddiots who think that that high number is the car's max speed.
I had a co worker that looked at my GT's gauges and said, your car goes 220mph?

well consider the grand prix's show 115 , and are limited to 126 or around there
well actually its porobly for show its a new gauge face you can get the numbers set to what every you want it set to. if you want a gauge face that goes up to 200 they will its a fully customised gauge. "We offer the widest range of custom effects for import and domestic cars and trucks, and specialize in one offs for those special vehicles that other fabricators can’t be bothered to do. Custom design possibilities are endless, with a rainbow of colors available, as well as special finishes and unlimited custom graphics." see look at this one ...
but then look at this one....
Its all in just what you want it to read... maybe some dragers out there like to haev that type of cluster so they can tell the actual speed if no other gauge in the car can be read!
LMAO to who every out there that only thinks that the VSS mod is the only way to change stuff around!
Just so we can put a rest to this.... if you go to blackcatcustoms website and look its VERY obvious that the 220 cluster is in KM/H NOT MPH. And if i remember correctly, when they first came out with it they also recalibrate the gauges, which is why the price is what it is...

They don't recalibrate anything.
The Canadian clusters go to 220 km/h. If you order one from BCC, they send you a Canadian cluster with their own face on it.
Since the cluster is electronic and swappable, there's no recalibration necessary. The car doesn't tell the cluster where to point the needle. The car tells the cluster what speed to show so on a US car the needle points straight up while on a Canadian car it points a little to the left for the same speed.
I believe the odometer just displays whatever number it's sent since it's stored in the BCM so there's no compatability issues there either.

I guess that comment was for me.

Obviously I know it is in
KPH (as I have the CDM cluster), but the same retards that follow that high # to be the car's max's speed thinks 220 on my car is in
MPH.

If you read Black Cat Customs website you will see this written
Black Cat Custom offers a custom conversion to upgrade your stock 110 mph speedometer to a 140 mph speedometer. This is a complete conversion that simply requires replacing your stock cluster with the converted one. There is no need to open the cluster, remove needles or run any special wiring. Black Cat Custom supplies a custom 140 mph gauge face and installs it into a cluster. The cluster is then re-programmed and re-calibrated for accuracy. The complete cluster is shipped to you ready to install, and installation can be completed, using basic tools, in about 30 minutes.

Yes. And by "reprogrammed and recalibrated for accuracy" they mean "we use a Canadian cluster".
The Canadian clusters have much cooler icons for the warning lights, by the way. Got mine from BCC when he did my needles.
Yeah... ours don't have that retarded "CHECK GAGES" light on them. heheh.
