Hooking Gauges To the Dimmer Controller

Ok before I start I will state I have searched and the best I could find was this: Installing Gauge Overlay/Tapping Dimmer Switch

I understand that everybody mentions this silver wire. Now I own a 2005 Cavalier and I looked at the dimmer panel. there are 4 wires coming out of it and none of them are silver. Am I looking in the right place? They also talked about tapping into the turn signal, but is this really necissary?

I think things like this should have it's own How To section that can only be inserted by moderators. But hey what ever. Any help would be useful to find out the solution to this.

Or you could hook it up to ur HVAC, the wires will be yellow and gray. It will also work with the dimmer switch then.

I'm positive I used a gray wire. Use a voltmeter and find one that varies when you turn the dimmer switch.

It was a silver wire in my 97 and 99 Sunfires. It may be a different color in newer ones. Like Wild Weasel said you can use a voltmeter to find the wire.

Well I guess with different years they changed the colors. But the one for my 05 ended up being brown with a white stripe. I should have used a volt meter from the beginning but all of my tools are sitting behind a boat motor which I was not strong enough to lift up and move myself. Damn crates.

Thanks for your help guys.

And Jose(95Vette) I'll let that one slide for now

That was taken the wrong way, It was aimed toward the moderators that won't push to put in a @!#$in HOW-TO section because noobs are always asking "How do I do this?" and all of that could be avoided with the section. I know who you are and what you've done, didn't call you a noob.

Sweet, you found one of my old threads. Yup, I used the grey wire.
