Hi again all.
I searched the forums looking for this answer but did not find it.
I recently purchased a 95 Sunfire Convertible.
My question is if the air bags are actually in the car or not. After 14 years you just don't know what PO's did to the thing.
Is there a quick way to "peek" and see if they are there? I'd rather know now before I need them than after and I'm dead!
Also is there a way to make sure the sensors haven't been damaged or removed by PO's?
I did find replacement procedures and find that the drivers is fairly easy to check. What about the dash mounted one on the passenger side?
I know you need to disconnect the battery for about an hour before hand so you don't accidentally set one off.
Thanks for any help.
Just take the top of the dash off to check the passenger side, it only takes about 10 minutes if you havent done it before.
punch your steering wheel
if the horn pad button area is on your wheel you have the driver side, and to check the passanger side take off the dash top.
Also if you dont have an airbag light on then you most likely have air bags still.

HI,
Thanks for the quick answers!
As it turns out, yes both air bags are there. The passenger side is covered with a separate plastic cover held on with some rubber retainer "pins". It was very easy to gently pry up and peek under it without removing the cover entirely.
For the drivers side, yes, the horn cover is fully intact.
Now what about the sensors for deployment? Are they easy to locate to make sure they are on the car??
Thanks again
Dave
they are yellow and one at the front and one at the rear of the car.
Odds are they are still there aswell since you dont have an airbag light
