just a little project, powdercoating and polishing a High Output IDI cover. First pic is how I found it at the wrecker, 2nd pic is after having it sandblasted. I'll post more pics once its powdercoated, and then once the top ridges are polished.

What are our 2.4 and 2.3 IDI covers made out of? I thought sandblasting would put out the metal....

I believe it's cast aluminum with some sort of coating on it. I know a wire wheel cuts into it pretty good. Definitely want to be careful.

That actually looks pretty good after the sandblasting. Getting the flaking coating out of the grooves is a serious PITA.

they are a cast aluminum. when I went to get it from the wrecker, the guy was saying how much money aluminum was going for these days, so I originally offered him a bunch of aluminum cans as a trade, but we settled on $10 in the end

actually this IDI cover was coated pretty well, but sandblasting is probably the quickest way to clean it off. It ended up taking me a bit longer, as the coating was really stuck.

(I did the blasting)

looks good Corey, now get it powder coated!

kind of hard to take a good picture, too much of a glare coming off the powdercoat, but this'll at least give you an idea:

Very nice! My project is a little more complicated... but I can only hope it looks that good when it's done!

I used grafitti removere on the coating on my HO idi. it got the garb out the grooves easily. I need to get off my rear and polish it up.

I don't need a damn sig.

here's an updated pic. Got all the powdercoating off, and went over the metal with 80 grit sandpaper to get out all the imperfections. Starting to look really good:

Looks good! I remember when I had mine done by my sponsor at Precision Powdercoating. It was a PITA because my IDI cover was dual toned Flourescent Green and Reflective white pearl so their was a lot of taping lol. Keep us updated!
