I got the light assembly from Carrie (J TO ENVY) after she yanked her spoiler (BTW, thanks again
)
First off, I cut out the front of the brake light so I could insert in the 2 LED boards.
Next, the boards were assembled, wiring strung, and the boards were siliconed in. Here's the progress of that part.
Cut boards
Unassembled test fit
One of the assembled boards
Assembled board test fit, prior to wiring
Test run of board (just to make sure everything was set up properly before I got it all together and the "oh @!#$, it don't work" phase)
Test fit (had to do some minor trimming to get it to fit)
Wired board:
Got this sweet little number from IZN which I'll use to finish it off (btw, Josh, I fixed that little ripple on the edge of it... heat gun works wonders
):
I still have a ways to go... silicone the boards in, cut the rest of the stock lens off, get 2 more side LED boards put together, put together the other main board, clean up all the cut edges... buy some NiteShades, finish the wiring, work on the LED tails, etc, etc...
looking good man! keep it up!
one of these years I'll get to my wiring projects. I'm definitely going to have to hit the "LED Master" up.

i like these little LED projects you do

I've been looking around for a solution to your idea (that's all I'm going to hint about it...) I just gotta find that link in my sea of bookmarks.

I think this will be the first one that I will actually finish without too much hassle
Those tail lights were giving me some sorta trouble (and still are for that matter)
lookin good man. that is exactly how im starting mine. im just not using quite as many led's. if i need more, i'll go pick some more up. could you by any chance throw
this pic here in paint and label those wires??? the way i was doin mine, i only had a pos n neg wire.
thanx
* * BIG FOR SALE POST * *
That's all I'm running is a pos and neg, however, I have 3 series -- 2 of 5 and 1 of 4.
It has one main feed and the 3 are running in parallel off the main...
The green wire is pos, black is neg. The blue is heatshrink which has the resistor soldered in-line w/ the wire...
Here's a couple pics of the wiring (just took these a couple min ago)
(blurry pic) If you notice, there's one wire that will power all the series, but then it branches off at the first heatshink into 3 wires... the next ones are the resistors, and then they end at the board.
(not so blurry pic)
(and a close up of the ground split since I haven't heatshrinked it yet -- power wire similar)
Does this help a little better?
ahhhhh, much better. thanx
hopefully i will be able to find a donor third brake light so i can get this thing finishe. ill be sure to post pics when i do

Looking good mang!! *Bows down to the LED masta*
I should be well worth all the trouble when its done and installed!
ECOTEC now with Maximum Bolt-Ons!!
Actually, this is going alot smoother than the tail-light project (which I'm trying to complete on the side... I'll just do one post with the start-to-finish on that one).
Couple more updates:
Got the other main board soldered up.
If these are a bit blurry, I'm sorry... my cam was being retarded this evening.
These are just sitting in the housing, so the light pattern is a bit off.
And from a distance:
Here's the output pattern (I have to use the spare room for soldering -- cant f-up the new table or else):
And a prelim shot of the boards behind the clear lens (it'll be niteshaded, so no worries that they are still the yellow/orange color)
Im assuming i'll see the finished product in Spokane, lol.
looken real good rob!!!
glad to hear you fixed that part. the first ones you learn all the trials and errors, LOL.
cant wait to see it complete!!!

Badass as usual Rob now work out all the tail light issues and make me a set

Oh, just wait Satch...
After a bit of a hiatus -- here's a small update:
Next comes 2 side LED boards...
I used 2 vinyl screw spacers as mounts
Cut the 2 sides off the lens in preparation for the clear one...
Mounted the first of the 2 main boards (industrial grade epoxy is nice especially when its free)
And have to wait till tommorrow to finish mounting the main boards.
Wednesday will be the wiring...
Friday (after I wash the car) will be a functional road test. I anticipate several "flippings of the bird" due to these -- and they are only 3000 mcd.
i so want this for my spoiler

man i love leds, they are so sweet
great great job
Very cool. I like that alot
Thanks guys
Here's the update of the day
Second board mounted (the lens piece is being used as a brace to hold the LED board in position). Yes, those are straight and spaced properly. The curve of the lens and the angle of the pic makes it deceiving. The harness I'll be using is in the background. I had an extra one lying around.
Next weekend is the clear lens, but for now, its off to Spokane for my local club's meet (and the functional road test).
Here's the installed pics, no lens:
Day/Dusk (I know the car needs a bath
