Gee... I wonder what Brad's surprise is?
THE ACTUAL ORIGINAL CUSTOM HAND MADE FRONT FIBERGLASS LIP OFF THE GM TECHNIC CONCEPT CAR!!!!
Yes, that's right! LOL, when I knew of it being for sale I had to have it (thanks Freq!!!), so... with some help from Wade Jarvis and Paul Tjepkes we came up with the funds and purchased the entire bumper off the car, lip and all. Paul owns the bumper, fog light grilles and the APC clear bumper lenses. I just wanted the lip and the license plate filler panel.
AND.. here's the good news... Paul made a mold of the lip
I cannot explain in words how high quality this thing is, it had to have taken many many hours to get just right. the fit and finish is impeccable, especially for it being a fiberglass piece. Whoever made this thing they should be proud.
It's a hell of an honor to have this piece of J-body history on my car and couldn't be happier with how it looks.
Few things not commonly known...
It has 7 studs molded into the fiberglass evenly across the top. These are what hold it onto the bumper.
The top edge that sits up against the bottom of the bumper is entirely filler, as well as the trim sides that fit up against the wheel well plastic protector covers that bolt to the inside of the bumper.
Gm painted the thing several times, the paint on both the bumper and lip was at least a 16th of an inch thick.
I didn't have the funds necessary to have it painted this season so I decided to spray it with satin black and see how it looked. I hand sanded the GM paint off and put 3 coats of primer on, wet sanding between each coat. Then I sprayed it with 3 coats of satin black, west sanding between each coat. I have over 25 hours of work in on the SOB and believe I couldn't be happier with the end result. The hard work definitely paid off.
My bumper isnt in the best condition and has a small divet in the bottom of it from god knows what from the previous owners. I can tell you I did not put this here and now it's more of an eyesore then ever because the lip makes it stand out that much more. It WILL be fixed and re-painted though so don't worry!
I do not know if I want to paint it white to match the car now though, the satin black really goes well with the rest of the car's black accenting and I am torn with the decision to keep it or not.
What go you guys think I should do? Paint it white to match the car or keep it black?
And onto the pics... sorry for the in-process cell stuff, I wanted to get it done so I didn't bother with grabbing the camera.
I used plastic wing nuts off a Beretta's tail lights to hold it onto the bumper, they worked ok but they are a bitch to get tight. I believe I'll going with washers and regular nuts eventually.
and off to the show i went, it was 75 miles away from my house and I aint taking ANY risks with this lip so tape HAD to go on! LOL
Found a nice sign!
I went to the largest and last show of the year for me yesterday, came home with first place.

x a billion!
I love it though!
I know a lot of people do it, but for some reason I cringe when I see the car supported up front there on stands, I guess I should give that area more credit.
Props on the 1st, well deserved, good thing the JoeDM Mustang wasn't in your class!
^^^^ lmfao on the JoeDM stang!!
and yes... the front bumper support is fine to support the car up on, after all the whole unibody structure starts right over where the stands are.now... jacking it up in the center, thats risky!! the damn support bends upwards. not good. hahaha

Alexis: Dustin, you're ghey, lol. I am better. I have tits, and tits rule all.
Guess I'm the only one who likes the subtle factory bumper look to it. Kinda reminds me of how some stock bumpers on some cars have a flat black lip at the bottom. Won't look bad painted either though. I am just completely amazed at how clean every inch of your car is. You take very nice care of it!
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

looks awesome. personally, I saw keep it the black, but also have the side skirts go black and the bottom piece of the rear black to give it that little extra flow.
