Quad 4 refers to 4 valves per cylinder and 4 cylinders. Quad 8- 4 valves per cylinder and 8 cylinders.

Some say the "Quad-8" was what eventually became the "Northstar." Remember Northstar has been in exitence since 1993... a prime time for the Quad famaily.

The North stars and 3.4 DOHC's were based Heavily off Quad-4 Tec.
If you look close at that pic, you will see 2 water necks, A LT1/LT4 (latter moded to the LT5 DOHC) Style Intake. Two intake cam sticking out of the cam tower, one that has a pulley on it.
Next time I am in class, I will ask Corky if he remembers it, and what he knows of it.
