Transporter's 09 Progress
Monday, April 13, 2009 11:31 AM
Just got my new night shaded tail lights finished and installed, and I installed my new muffler a couple weeks ago. Waiting on chrome tips that are on back order. Let me know what you think.

I have amber LED's in the corners, I couldn't really get it to show up with the camera, but it looks real nice at night.

I'm not feeling the painted lower lips, and the 03-05 tails look out of place. Other than that it's clean.

Just my opinion. Lose the pinstripe, shave the door moldings, go back to your old tails, and paint the part around your licence plate back to red. Not sure if im feeling the black around the bottom but it may flow a little better with some different rims. Again just my opinion, its your car.

You need to get in the habit of drying your car after you wash it. It does not matter how good the wash is if it still has water spots all over it.

Still haven't decided if I'm keeping the tails, leaning towards not though...

I'd ditch the pin stripe in a second, but it's under the clear, so it's not worth the money, and I would like to shave the moldings, but this is my DD, so function over form I'm afraid.

Yeah your right Wade, I would have been fine if I hadn't of driven down a gravel driveway, but I'll dry it next time.

Thanks for your input guys.

Wow. So someone sprayed clear over top of pinstripe!?! Thats F$#@^d!!!! Just weird, never knew guys do that. I understand about the side moldings, I guess if you park in a lot of tight parking areas or shopping malls they could come in handy. Any other plans for the car other then going back to the stock tails?

I actually don't have a problem with any of it. I like the tails because it's not something every other cav has. And the black lip on the red, just blends well with the nightshade. It ties it together to me. Also, you've got my vote for leaving off the chrome tips I like the raw pipe. I realize it's not going to win you any points at shows, but since you said this is your DD, I'm assuming you don't enter them anyway.

Cav looks great, only change I'd make is the pinstripe, but as you stated before, not worth the time or money involved since it's been cleared in. Maybe some projector headlights?

Yeah the pin stripe was there when I bought it, looks like something the idiot previous owner had done, it worked fine until I started going for a black theme, lol. Thinking about having a black stripe laid over it, then at least the blue wouldn't clash. Also I have to park in a lot of cramped parking lots at school, even with the moldings I end up with dings everywhere but, such is the life of a DD, nothing you can do about it.

Planning on gunmetal NEX-O PX-5's, but that won't be for a while, have to put myself through college at the same time, and $1K is a lot to drop into wheels, but I don't want to buy something that I'm not totally sold on, and I haven't found anything else I like. Just recently the chassis stiffening bug has hit me, and I'm working on my own K bar right now.

Thanks Slide, honestly I can't make up my mind, one second I love them, the next it doesn't look quite right, and then I'm back to liking it. I think I just need to live with it for a while, let it sink in. I like the raw stainless pipes too, still not sold on the tips either, lol, I'm bad at making decisions like that, so we'll see.

I've just started looking into projectors, but I have to figure out what I'm going to do for the bumper lights and clear corners at the same time. Plus I don't wanna run projectors without HID's, so it all piles up to a big pile of cash pretty quick. All I know is I wanna bring the black theme towards the front more.

Yeah the shoot was really for the new rear of the car, so that's where I focused, plus I've got some front end damage I need fixed from hitting a cat at 60 this winter, lol.

You do have a point though WhiteCavy, there is definitely a lot going on back there...

Oh and Brembo slotted rotors with Hawk pads are due in the mail tomorrow, finally this thing will be able to stop.

I like the tails, also you can hook them up to function like the Toyo tails do. Nice work, and it would look great with black rims wit a polished lip!

i'm suprised no one mentioned the exhaust. like how the driverside doesn match up with the grove in the lip. and how they are both touching the lip. hot pipe and platic dont go well together.

Re: Transporter's 09 Progress

They actually aren't touching the lip, close, but not touching. And there isn't much I can do about the cut out, it was there from the previous owners fart pipe, and I can't get the tips any closer together without having something custom bent that will be pretty restrictive. I wish I could put the money into a new bumper, but I don't have that big of a budget, and it isn't that noticible.

I gotta say overall Im not a fan and normally I like the 03 tails but i think its overboard.

Hmmmm..

Well, you take good care of it and it's nice and shiny. The support bar in the trunk is a good idea for your heavy sub box. My suggestions;

1. Lower it on Eibach Sportlines or Tein S-tech's.. inexpensive compared to coil-overs and a fair drop.

2. Tape off the outline of pre-03' inner tails and paint the center of the rear bezel red to match your car.. but leave about an inch line across, like a connecting bar. It might break up the rear a little and make it flow better, less dramatic while still original and cost effective.

3. The black lip style is unique, but I'm not sure the rear bumperettes where the license plate is are best in black.

4. VHT your headlights, lightly. Tape off the face of the lens and paint the recessed edges in satin black. Smoked/painted edge stock headlights give out the same output of light and with a clear coat it deepens the look of the lenses.

5. Using a matching paint rattle can, mask off your side mirrors and spray them to match, then clearcoat. Small pieces can be made to match factory base/clear paints close enough that nobody will notice the difference.

6. Black pinstripe over the blue.

7. Make a front lip out of garden edging.. hahaha.. no, I'm serious. It's an insanely cheap way to add a lower line to your front, and yes, it can look good and who cares if you rip it off at some point.. its $12.

8. Either refinish your Z24 alloys in gloss black with a red lip/edge or consider black/red stripe/chrome lip rims.

For reference of some of those mods, here's my car in it's infant stages.. all the mods were cheap and creative to that point, lol

Annnnd I think I've said enough, but yep. Good start. Keep it up.

Thanks for the ideas, quite a few of them I'm pretty interested in doing. But I will never add a Home Depot lip, lol. And I just cleared my mirrors so they stay black, don't really care for the colored mirrors.

I always wondered how you had done those head lights, thanks for the info.

Well the paint work is definitely unique, which is a nice change to see from the usual stuff on here. All that matters is that you like it bro! And nice duals, are they Sunfire duals or just aftermarket?

Thanks, its a Walker quietflow Camaro muffler. 2.5" in, and 2 2.5"s out. Reasonably quiet, doesn't drone, and sounds pretty good all through the rev range. Still needs a resonator though.

exhaust clip? And if you don't mind me asking, how much did the set-up cost you? I'm going to do duals on mine, probably do a 95-99 Sunfire GT set-up, but use different mufflers than stock, but if your set-up sounds nice and is cheaper, I might just do that but with the oval tips
