The first car I can call my own.

It's a base model 5 speed. I know it looks like ass, I don't care. I'm 17 and pretty damn poor. It was cheap and pretty much what I wanted(minus the rust).

It needs paint realllyyyy bad. The wheels suck too. It has a Cherry Bomb turbo muffler because the stock one had a hole the size of a fist in it. It was cheap and it sounds nice, a little growl and not like all the Honda's in my area. My stereo is laughable at best. Stock deck with a line level converter, Nakamichi PA1002 amp and a Jensen XS1010 sub, in a box built by me(1.75@33 before sub displacement, so I reckon its tuned between 34/35 hz).

So I had a go at my headlight/corners. Headlights came out awesome, corner lights were a FAIL. It got cold that night and came out to see one cracked to hell. I'm assuming it contracted too much from where it was glued in place at about 25 degrees celsius. I'm just going to tint a set amber when I get a hold of some, I think it should contrast well with the color of the car.

[
Few notes:

It's as dirty as it is because the car isn't even licensed/registered yet(I don't have my license yet) and there isn't a tap on the outside of my house!
-The amp wasn't hooked up in that pic, the wires are also tucked away now.
I did have 95-99 Z wheels but the tires were too bad to pass inspection so I traded them for the crappy ones with new rubber and $100.

I know this isn't really up to standard at all, it looks like a winter beater, a @!#$ty one at that. But it's all I have and I love it!

X2. The only time I'll put down a sh!tbox is when someone goes out and slaps $200 worth of APC crap on it and doesn't take care of the important stuff. It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders to get rid of the Z rims because you needed decent rubber. Not many people would have done that.

I'd start by doing patchwork where the rust is. If you don't know what you're doing, head to your local library and get yourself a good body work book that you can plop on your hood while you work, and work on it until it's ready for paint. If you do all of the prep work yourself, and take your time to do it right, you can get away with a Maaco paint job (they paint good enough, but their cheap jobs include nothing for prep, so you end up with a sh!tty end result).

Bottom line, though, is take care of it properly and attend to the stuff that matters most (regular oil changes, engine maintenance, brakes, any repairs it needs to suspension, etc), then work your way toward any mods you want.

Right now my goals are pretty much clean fresh paint, I'm liking the Type J kit, smoked tails, some rims, sportlines/d-spec's, new audio setup and maybe some boost(although the LN2 really isn't a good start)

It's gonna take a while but the end product is worth it I guess.

For your first car I'd say you have done good. Sure it has some issues at the moment but over time you will turn it into a damn nice ride. I got to give you credit to for buying a car with a standard trans! Way too many automatic j bodies cruising around. Not that thats a bad thing I guess, just standards are more fun!

I'm going to start the body work soon, I had enough practice on my Mother's old(2002 cav, just as bad rust wise) car to at least stop it from spreading, I'm just going to hit it with near match paint for now. There are a couple dent's I need to fix as well. I guess it will look better than it is now and just primer too haha. I live in Newfoundland, Canada. No maaco. I can get my friend's dad to do it for fairly cheap though, he does good work as well. The brakes were just done front and rear, I'm very meticulous about oil changes, I figure it can never hurt to change the oil more than not enough. I'm very anti-ricer, there are way too many around here. What are peoples views about synthetics and high mileage motors?

Alot better than my 1st.

I bet with some good compound, and a buffer you can bring that paint back to life until you get it painted

Thank you. Can you buff spraypaint? If I can I'll fix the rust spots then buff the whole car.

I had one of those Jensen XS subs in my first vehicle back in 2002, for $35 brand new at Wal-Mart that sub beat! Seriously.

Keep plugging, be smart, enjoy this car, but be sensible in spending money on it too.

So far I've spent $100 on the brakes, $80 for the muffler with installation, $60 for the sub, amp and wiring, $24 for the box, and about $5 on the lights haha. The sub has surprised quite a few people actually, including myself. I paid $1350 CDN for the car and it came with 4 brand new winter tires on steelies(less than 500km's), along with the Z wheels. The 5 speed is so much more fun then the 4 speed auto. The car is also SO MUCH better on gas compared to the auto. I did have sportlines but decided to not drop on stock struts and I didn't have the cash for yellows/d-specs/any decent struts so I sold them. It will all come in due time I guess.

My first car was a beat up rusted out 93 ford explorer that was battered from my dad and i 4 wheeling in it. I worked to get it inspected to get the car i have now. Sooo this is a pretty snazzy first car i would say. A big thing is.... if you like something, do it. You don't want something only because others aprove of it. If you only did things others suggested or told you to do, it wouldnt be yours.

My first car is still in progress...but I had a rough start too.

And this is after 3 years of owning it, I finally get to make this happen.

Nice starter ride. You'll get it there!

He started ground up with his 97 and the end result was stellar.

I was just worrying about the edges of it where it meets the old paint. Should be okay then.
