I've waited to start this thread until i was finally sure i'm going to be finished around my planned completion date of Mid-April.
Here are some before pics.
So enough with the old... virtually everything is getting re-done...
First off comes the motor, then the Body & Paint, and Finally Interior!
Coming in to this i had the head fully ported and polished and decked .020. I also had an HO Exhaust cam, and 95 Intake cam. On this go around i had it outfitted with CarCustoms 1mm oversized valves, HO Springs, adaptive retainers (ho springs => 2.4 valves), and ditched the Cams for .430 Lift 222 duration Crane Cams Modified HO Cams (With intake adapted to work with the 2.4). As for the block, i started over completely from scratch.
Heres the goodies for the new block.
GM Reground crank - right before it went to the machine shop for 3 lb lightening and balance.
Spec Stage 3 6 puck clutch
Eagle Rods - right before they went to the machine shop to get balanced.
OBX Underdrive Pully
2.3 Oil pump Swap
RK Sport Lightweight Flywheel
ARP Main Studs
Wiseco 11:1 Comp Pistons .020 over

Today the block went to the machine shop to finish up the needed machine work and assembly of the short block. I also ditched all of the engine bay paint for powder coating (all the painted pieces above except the IDI cover have now been powdercoated)... I'll have the powder coat pics up soon.

All Aspects is mainly a Subaru Shop, we used have our body shop on the same street (Tilden Ave) a few years back. They F*cked over White4Door.... which was highly funny. He brought his Green Z24 in there, they laughed at him, charged him like 900 for a stock clutch replacement... then he blew the motor and he bought his 92 integra, and blew that motor, i cant remember what he said they charged him but he had them put a used motor in that... i think he said something along the lines of 3 grand... oh and they laughed at him again.

only thing i am not a fan of is the OBX crank pulley. but i would like to see how it works out just for knowledge purposes.
what header you going with? what throttle body?

Brad: i'll take pics tomorrow when im home tomorrow. imma give the OBX pully a try... if it doesn't work out, i'll replace it with Unorthodox. As for the header... i still have the pacesetter 4:1 ... but Karo informed me of a much better one, and gave me contact instructions... its like $900 so i'll have to hold off a little bit and go with it after the break in. I have the 95 LO 56mm throttle body now... after the break in i'll look in to getting it bored out to 62mm.

As for the color, i liked the cayenne, but i wanted something a little more kandyish... and that was our attempt to accomplish that... however the problem (and the pics don't show it) is that clear was absorbed by the base and you can barely see it... so this year i have a HoK color picked out. I need to find 03-05 LS Sport sides. I found a CF trunk so that'll be going on. The car is at the body shop now getting the engine bay sprayed black with prismatic flake, so that i'll have a neutral color in the engine bay but it will match the pieces i had powdercoated black with prismatic.
The machine shop today told me i'll have the short block completely assembled in 2 weeks. (i dropped everything off last night)
they are going to:
Lighten (up to 3 lbs) and balance the Crank
balance the rods
drill and tap 2 holes for the windage tray
tap and plug two oil galleys to complete the 2.3 oil pump swap
bore out the cyls .20 over
mic out crank to determine proper bearing size and order the matching clevite 77s
install the helicoil to retrofit the knock sensor.

yeah... i ended up having 5 million things to do the only night i was at my parents house this week ... i'll try again this week...
brad: what are my options on aftermarket fuel rails? i had a good lead on an RK Sport one, but the guy has yet to PM back with a shipping quote and its been nearly a week,
that engine bay is gorgeous.....
was the rk rail you were referring to scott lafngas's? if so he goes out for work for weeks, some times months at a time so he might not have a whole lot of internet access at the moment. but he will get back to you...
if not just contact him im pretty sure he had one for sale a while back.
finding an rk sport rail is a hard thing to do so follow up any lead if this is the one you truly want.
and really, its either the rk sport or the venom for us. venom has made two different styles throughout the years. i know david whitecavy has the new style. finding the older style is getting pretty rare these days but they are out there. just a different amount of writing and or font iirc is the difference.
other than those two the only one i can remember would be mark at oem's one he custom made last year. dont know if he mass produced them or not though. there was a thread about it in performance i think.

UPDATE: The #5 main on the block ended up being out of round, and it needs to be line bored to correct. We think it happened when the block was powder coated. So its looking like Friday or Monday when i get it back now. I intend on getting all my remaining parts today and bringing them in to work, so i should be able to snap pictures of the head tomorrow.
