which products can i get for $2000 for the cavy
Wednesday, August 18, 2004 11:46 AM
guys: as on now, i have some extra money, and was wondering which products can i get for the ride with 2000 dollars. my ride is stock except for clear corners, and a pioneer deck w/remote. i've been thinking about the drift kit with the type 3 rear bumper and door skins. are the door skins the same as the door caps? i will get other things as well to. so just let me know if i will be able to stay under 2000 dollars, or would probably go over the budget.

I would go with rims before I ever installed a body kit, but that's just me.

Stock rims + expensive body kit = Ugly
Nice rims + stock body = Better than average
This is like asking a guy to sit in the middle of a room full of beautiful models and telling him to pick 5. Everyone's going to have different answers and any one of them may or may not be anything you're interested in. Do you like show, go, a little of both. What do YOU want?

Best start for show:

Get wheels, a drop, and a body kit for show. If you make "good" purchases, you should have around $200 left to do whatever. More if you paint it yourself.

Best start for go:

Depending on how much go you want, and if you're going to do future go upgrades, your starting place depends on the ending place. If you want big numbers, fast, high hp, then start buying motor parts for a motor build-up. Rods, pistons, internals, etc. If you want respectable, but not too much hp, then look into N2O, or start adding pulleys, intake, exhaust, and other bolt-ons.

Best start for all around:

The best way to spend your money for all around performance and looks upgrades would include wheels, a drop, rear disc conversion, short shifter, sway bars, and so on. All the looks and hp in the world won't do ANY good if you can't keep it on the road.

OR

You can buy a nice stereo system for your car. Deck, speakers, and amps would probably run around the $2,000 area for a decent system. Nothing special, but plenty for a good sounding respectable system.

filling out ur registry helps too, some parts are cheaper depending on the year & model of ur cav/sf. This way if anything we can give u some ideas on where to look for what. Just a suggestion ~_~
Rims and a body look nice but they dont really add any performance gain, as a result of larger rims your compromising your ride quality, adding weight hurts gas mileage and making the car slower, body kits add drag which also slows you and takes away gas mileage, more effective first mod might be msd ignition, intake and exhaust, this will help you save money to do all those other things for appearance
The most common mods on most cars are: intake, muffler ( which is what MOST people really have when they say EXHAUST), rims, and a toss up between lowering and body kit. Like they said...looking to be fast and not too flashy (sleeper style)? Then start throwing real parts into the engine. Looking to be all show and no go? Sit down and find the biggest baddest bodykit money can buy with the biggest rims you can squeeze. It is all a matter of opinion and style, and that is a decision you have to make on you own.
the first mod i did to my car was rims, i hate the way steelies look even when they have lovely plastic hub caps on them. I didn't go 20" rims i went to 16's and put some better gripping tires on. the weight gain was slight, but i've had the tires for almost 3 years and they still have a lot of tread...this includes quite a few trips to the burnout box at the local drag strip as well as agressive driving every day.

I will probably be upgrading the speakers and perhaps putting in an amp and mp3 player soon, but we'll see.
Can i just say "YES!"

i agree with shaner cause nothing is worse than a hot body kit with steelies or even hub caps... unless the are really hot stock rims.. from the newest year car...

Not only that but drop it when you buy rims...

Cost of rims - $799 at Wheelmax.com right now!!

cost to properly drop it 950 includeding install...

Koni yellows $500-600 springs $150-280
Install - 200.

about 1600 to buy rims and lower it with great ride quallity...

Look at car before rims...

bags on stock tires/rims? um why?

as for the ram air hood and spoiler...not my style stock spoiler is fancy enough for me, its not like you need downforce on a 120hp car, even with the VSS removed
What I would do with that is get JBP lifters, Stage 2 cams, And the Race shop street track head with 5 angle valve job. Looking around $2000. Should be 55hp to the wheels!
