97' Sunfire GT Belt
Friday, March 04, 2005 6:46 AM
I am running a 97' Sunfire GT and some one mentioned by-passing the AC condenser. Does anyone know what a good replacement belt would be? Would a 94 w/o A/C belt work on a 97 GT 2.4L?

you could go to a parts store and check the numbers...

Actually, I tried doing that. According to Checker and Napa they did not make a Sunfire GT without a/c and so they don't have a factory made ( or OEM for that matter ) belt. They suggested running a string around the parts they I wanted the belt to go around so they could match length, but they were not able to find anything.

Why would you want to bypass the compressor?

There is a belt out there that will work, basically you have to measure it yourself. I think (remember, this is like 3 years ago I helped with this), that the belt is a 57 3 or 5 rib. I know its extremely tight and hard to get on, and very hard to find since the ones we were finding had too many ribs or something.

You could just get the idler pulley. Who cares if nobody made a 97 GT without A/C, any 2.4L cavalier/sunfire/grand am/alero/malibu 96-02 without A/C will use the same belt.
