Sprak plug changing?
Wednesday, April 13, 2005 11:36 PM
I have a 2.2L ECOTEC and was wondering when to change my spark plugs, I live in Canada so if you could tell me how many Km or at least roughly tell me how many Km that would be great. Also what kind of spark plugs would be best?

Thanks in advance

Yeah, the AC Delco's are quality plugs and often the best available for many applications. Don't get suckered by marketing gimmicks!

Actually, I think it's around 100,000 km (60k miles) that you change spark plugs on newer cars.

Doesn't hurt to change them early, but I don't think you're anywhere near due yet.

I used my stock ones till 140,000 kms, not a good idea though. They are cheap and changing them can recover lost gas mileage which basically offsets the cost of changing them.

I usually change my plugs everythree months along with my iol and everything else. Keeps the engine nice and fresh, and I think its worth the money to keep your car runing chery.

That's a complete waste of money.

Do you change your tires every year just for kicks as well?

I can understand cutting the interval in half and changing them every 50-60k km's. You can avoid some issues doing that which have nothing to do with the spark plugs actually being worn, such as them seizing in the threads or something.

But changing them before they've barely lost their brand-new-plug-shine is pointless. They're still new.
