Please help - 2 lights on - "ETC OFF" and "(ABS)"

Please help this newb. I did a search, but the search for ETC came back with everybody that said, "blah, blah, blah, etc"

Last night, I had 3 lights come on that shouldn't - the LOW TRAC light came on at startup and stayed on for over 10-15 seconds insead of the standard 3 seconds. When it did go out, it was replaced by the ABS light and the ETC OFF light.

I was only going 4 miles so it was no biggie. When I was leaving there - I made a point to go a little faster in reverse then jammed on the brakes, in case my rears needed self adjusting I thought it might help. the ABS light didn't come on but the LOW TRAC light did stay on. I was just inside the parking lot so I dropped the gear selector down to a lower gear and it went off. The rest of the way home no lights came on.

This morning in my comute from Flint to LIvonia, 52 miles, the ETC OFF and ABS lights were on again and stayed on. From reading the manual, I understood these systems to be exclusive of one another, but it sure seems that they are connected in this case. THe only thing faily relevant is that I did just replace the front rotors and pads about 2-3 weeks ago, but didn't have time to even look at the rears. But I don't know why worn rear shoes would throw a traction control light anyways.

The car seems to stop well and in a straight line - and, trust me, my 2.2L would have a had time actually losing traction on wet ice.

Please help if you can make any sense of this.

Thanks,
Phlint

The two systems are very much interconnected. It's most likely a wheel speed sensor, but the only way to know for sure is to have the codes scanned.

First check all the sensor wire connections though to ensure nothing is loose or frayed. If you don't find anything obvious, you'll have to get it scanned. There's just no other reasonable way to trouble-shoot it.

Check your Brake and tranny fluid, these fluids being low can cause these lights to come on. Make sure you ABS wire (By the brakes is cionnected and not just dangling. Thats all I can suggest for now. Sorry.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.

I have the OD trans - so there is no tranny fluid dipstick, and the brake fluid level was fine as of when I completed the brake job a few weeks ago. I WILL check it again though, thanks.

How many wheel speed sensors are there and where are they really? Is it just a front wheel system, or front and back both?

Thanks guys for the suggestions. Keepum commin!

There's a sensor at each wheel and replacing them until the lights go out would be stupid. Just get the code scanned.

Yeah, the ABS codes are pretty specific. If it's a speed sensor, it will tell you which one.
