Well the "E" in e break stands for Emergency. All it is is a mechanical way to apply your rear brakes in case your brakes actualy go out on you while your driveing ( VERY
RARE !! ) Mostly its just used as a parking brake now days cause its not good to just let the P on your gear selector hold the weight of the car.

There was a lawsuit about it a few years ago, where a man sued GM because his emergency brake didn't stop his car when his brakes went out. This was never actually the intention so it has since been called the "Parking Brake"

Well lets see. Its bad for the lines, the drums, the strut mounts, the hub, and for chriting sake put the thing back in. YOu will miss it when you need it most.

Let it on, it's always fun during winter..... I don't see the point of taking it out, if you have to park your car on a hill, you won't find it funny to see your car getting down there without you in it..

I believe there is a law that says you need to have two independant ways of stopping the car so that if one fails, you have a backup.

In most modern cars, I believe this is accomplished with the two-channel MC. We have two complete hydraulic systems. Each system controls one front brake and the opposite side rear brake.

As mentioned... the parking brake is really only meant for parking. Pulling it in an emergency will generally do you more harm than good.

It IS necessary when parking on hills though, especially steep ones. If you park on a steep enough hill with an auto tranny and just throw it in "P", you can lock up the tranny and require someone to push your car slightly up the hill to release it. Always set the brake first, let the car settle on the rear brakes, then put it in "P" if you're parking on a hill.

I expect manual drivers already know how to park and don't need instruction from me here.

I figured that would be the answer I was going to get, "weight reduction" but give me a brake how much could it possibly weigh, it would do absolutly nothing for you on a 1/4mile run.

and yes there is a law, dont let your insurance company know you dont have one.

and it would do absolutely nothing for you having it taken out, in any circumstance, well nothing positive atleast. ever thought about if ur car were to roll down a hill because u didn have the Ebrake and it hit another car, or a person, or a lil child? ... how would u feel then...

The 2 or 3 pounds your gonna save does not off set the very bad idea of removeing it.
That has gotta be one of the silliest things I've heard. Unless you have an all out 1/4
mile car then nothing can justify its removal for weight savings.

Hey to just clarify something here Black99 I never said you were stupid. I said its a bad idea thats not calling you stupid. Hell even the best minds in the world have bad ideas / make mistakes. Its known as being human and with as many mistakes as I've made I'm not gonna make fun of other peoples ones.
